I am the president and principal engineer of BBF Engineering Services, PC (BBF). The company is a civil, construction and transportation engineering consulting firm incorporated in the state of Michigan in 1997. BBF specializes in construction inspection/engineering, traffic and transportation engineering, utility and permit coordination and project management.
My early interest in math and science led me to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Michigan State University in 1983. I completed my Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Wayne State University in 1989, a Certification in Transportation Systems from the University of Michigan in 1992 and a Doctorate in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Michigan State University in 1999.
Personal and corporate achievements have gained regional and national recognition. In 1998 the Federal Highway Administration named BBF its United States Department of Transportation Minority Business Enterprise of the Year. In 2004 the company was profiled in Black Enterprise magazine and again in Essence magazine in 2005. BBF Engineering Services has also been highlighted in Jet magazine, the Detroit Free Press and was the recipient of the Michigan Department of Transportation DBE Contractor of the Year Award in 2008. I have been blessed to have been recognized as a notable alumnus by Michigan State University. I am honored to be an ENO Transportation Fellow, a King-Chavez-Parks Fellow and have been awarded the Wayne State University Headliner Award.
I have delivered commencement addresses at the engineering schools of the University of Notre Dame and Wayne State University. I desire to share not only my experiences as an engineer and an entrepreneur, but also the challenges and successes in combining those roles with being a wife and mother.
To spread the message that one can have both a successful business and a sane, peaceful family life prioritized by God, I have authored my debut book titled For Love and Money: Seven Guidelines for Achieving Success in Your Home and Business.
I am a native of Flint, Michigan and have been married for 24 years to my husband Michael. We are the parents of two sons.
