Demitri C. Kornegay, has retired as a lieutenant after 31 years with the Montgomery County Police Department in Montgomery County, Maryland. He has worked with Special Assignment Teams, the Special Investigations Division, Investigations, Background Investigations, Internal Affairs and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit of the Emergency Response Team.
This author of the books, "From Servitude to Self-Reliance, The Kornegay Chronicles," and "Dear Rhonda-Life Lessons From A Father to His Daughter,” and “Man Up! – No Excuses – Do The Work!”, has appeared on such television broadcasts as "Good Morning America, The View, and Fox Mornings. His most recent national television appearance was the “Fatherhood and Responsibility” episode of TV One’s, “Black Men Revealed.” He is also featured in the NAACP’s “CRISIS” magazine and “Black Enterprise.”
Demitri attended the University of Richmond, Virginia, on an athletic scholarship and graduated in 1979 with majors in Speech Communications, Theater Arts, and minored in Sociology. On December 17, 2010, Demitri graduated from Bowie State University with a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. He is a member of Leadership Prince George’s and has earned his doctoral degree at Argosy University in Counseling and Education Supervision.
In the 1970’s, this “Outstanding Young Man of America” nominee tutored juvenile offenders at the Virginia Penitentiary in the city of Richmond, Virginia. In the 1980’s, this member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. volunteered his time and services to the Washington Urban League as an elementary school tutor in their "Operation Rescue" program in Washington, D.C. In the 1990’s this two time winner of the J. Franklin Bourne Association's prestigious, "Award for Community Service," was ordained a Deacon in the Galilee Baptist Church and developed a 12-week, Rites of Passage program for young men called "Men Under Construction."
In this, the new century, this “Legacy of Excellence” award winner from agoodblackman.com and the “Religious Leader of the Year” recipient from the Gamma Pi (graduate chapter) of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., helped coach the Gwynn Park High School football team from “worst to first” by going undefeated and winning the Maryland State Championship (2005), and mentored elementary school children.
“Man Up!”, is based upon the wisdom he has received throughout the decades. Now, in yet another action aimed at “leveling the playing field,” he shares that wisdom with the thousands of young men who either don’t know or barely know their fathers. A gifted motivational speaker, Demitri is well known in the Washington D.C. area for his “frank and to-the-point” messages.

1976- Hosted, "D.C.'s Universal Sound," a radio show, on campus station WDCE-FM until graduating in 1979.
1976- Tutored inmates at the Virginia Penitentiary as part of his college Sociology class.

1972 Running the winning touchdowns in the D.C. Interhigh Football Championship on Thanksgiving day against Anacostia High and then a week later in the D.C. City-Wide Interhigh Football Championship against St. John's High. Both games were played at R.F.K Stadium in Washington D.C.
