My name is Ruth Sims and I am a mother of two daughters Dashanai(18) attending Michigan State University and Tyesha (15)attending a Corner Stone High School. I am a member of Peoples United Methodist Church in Detroit, Michigan.
I was a free spirited person as a youth that thought I would not need an education, so I dropped out of school in the eight grade. I was a young woman with two children by age 21, and decided I would at least need a G.E.D if I wanted to teach my children anything. After obtaining my G.E.D I went to the University of Phoenix (2006-2010) and obtained an Associates and Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice. I believed that same free spirited person was still inside of me thus, I decided to obtain my Masters in Business Administration (2001-2013). I am in my final class at the University of Phoenix and will hold a Masters in Business Administration in October of 2013. My relationship with God is what inspired me to continue my education and lead my children by example. Currently I work for the Lutheran Child and Family Service as a youth specialist. I believe that to whom much is given much is expected, and so I live in that manner. I was the first person in my family to attend college and obtain a degree and hope to inspire others to do the same. What I have learned is life owes no one anything and if you want something you have to go get it. I also learned that some people have life easy while others must climb a ladder to reach the top. Well, I am still climbing and will until I reach the top, never will I give up on myself again.
