About (request update)

I was born in Nassawadox, VA; I still don't even know where Nassawadox is. I stayed on the eastern shore of VA until my dad was stationed at Ft. Bragg. I lived a normal childhood and never had any worries. At age 14 I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and it has been a struggle ever since. I never gave up on life, or even belittled myself into thinking there is nothing to live for. Through my adversities, I was still able to graduate from Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville, NC. I was honored as an outstanding senior and I even graduated on time. I got accepted to Fayetteville State University in 2004 where I decided that no matter what may happen to never give up on graduating. I was contracted by Air Force ROTC and given a scholarship. I even had the chance to go to Texas the summer of 2005 for the Flight Awareness and Safety Training program. I received my solo flight wings for completion of the program. I was given the honor of becoming a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. in 2006. Unfortunately at that time my Crohn's Disease was getting worse. I had to leave school in November of 2006. I was fortunate to have surgery in February of 2007 and I returned back to school in May of 2007. I understand the importance of education and how blessed I am to be in college. I never know when I will have another problem with my Crohn's Disease again, so I do all that I can to be successful in my schooling, as well as be an asset to my university and community. What is special about me is that I can look back at everything I have gone through in my life, smile, and still keep working for my ultimate goal. No matter how long it may take.

What is your most important purpose in life?

Current Whereabouts:

I am a senior at Fayetteville State University majoring in Biology . I will have completed my requirements for my Bachelor's degree over the summer and I will walk in December 2009. I am waiting from a response from the National Institue of Health for two postbaccalaureate programs I applied to. I am also looking for a possible job that deals with working in a research, or healthcare environment for a year while I am preparing for dental school.

Life & Professional Aspirations:

My ultimate goal is to become a dentist. I want to become a general dentist, or I may decide to specialize in oral and maxillofacial pathology. I am also interested in working in biomedical research as well. I believe it is important for a person interested in healthcare and science be willing to do research because that is the only way new discoveries are found to help others. Once I retire from dentistry I will pursue teaching. By doing so, the knowledge and experiences I would have gained in life can be used to better future children with the same aspirations as mine.

Most Memorable Moment:

Homecoming Week, Rollout Week, Stomp the Yard Stepshow, Concert with Lil' Wayne and T.I., roadtrips, getting my solo flight wings when I was in Air Force ROTC.
