About   (request update)
I'm an eigthteen year old college student. I graduated from Whitehaven High School in 2009 with honors. I was number 38 out of 440 something students, putting me in the top ten percent of my class. I chose to attend Southwest Tennesssee Community College for financial and personal reasons. I was employeed by Schnucks at age 17 in late october of 2008. I stayed with Schnucks for over a year and put up with many antics. I've was ridiculed about by uniform from head to toe. My supervisor once said that my socks should have been vsible and that footies weren't allowed. Even though, there were other employees who wore footies. I was disciplined on how not to double bag certain groceries. I was lashed out on because their were baskets on the lot while I was taking my break. I was also disciplined for not telling someone I was going on break , taking to long getting off my brake, and for taking to long in the bathroom. Honestly, I'm no a slacker on the job. These are all of my shortcomings that they blatantly pointed out. Nevertheless, the management at my job really had it in for me. It's like two kids in school. One's the teacher's pet and the other is the teacher's reject. The teacher's pet can get away with chewing gum in class but the reject can't even get away with looking like their chewing gum in class. At Schnucks, I was the reject. My supervisor always had a problem with me chewing gum. At times, I would even see her chewing gum. It was not fair. I knew she didn't like me. I couldn't wait to find another job. However, I had no luck. So i decided to stick it out. During my time at Schnucks, I wore twist dread extentions while transitioning from relaxed to natural. My decision for becoming natural was solely based on my horrific experieces with relaxed hair. I am not, in any way, trying to be political. I did my BC (big chop) in october of 2009. I started to wear my twa (teeny weeny afro) to work. I got the stares. People wanted to know why. However, al in all, I got some pretty positive feedback, management didn't complain about it. On January 1, 2009, Ms. Gloria called me into the office of Silas Lewis. This was her third time doing this since I had been working there. She was sitting there while Silas lectured me on the twists I had made with my natural hair. I didn't know why he thought my hair was exotic and offending to others. I was in shock as he was saying these things to me. I didn't want to be rude or rash because I was raised better. All I could so was nodd and smile as he change the subject to my time availabliity and how I was doing in school. On the outside I put on a smile and understanding face but on the inside I was raging mad with frustration and confusion. I didn't really know how to respond to the man. He told me how he understands how kids like to experiment and have their own trends but my hair style. I told him that my hair was in it's natural state. However, I'm no longer working for schnucks. I want to know it I have case or not. I wanted to join this site because I want to know what's acceptable in the workorce and what's not.
Life & Professional Aspirations:
I'm a full-time student at Southwest Tennessee Community College, majoring in English. I plan to transfer to USC after graduating with my asssociates and getting my degree in Journalism. That guy seems to have a career I admire. I want to eventually own my own production caompany and I would like to create a line of shoes for women with big feet like mine. F.Y.I., I wear a size 13. My overall aspiration is to live a happy life and please God doing it.
