BACKGROUND Dr. Evelyn Bethune is the granddaughter of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune
and CEO of the Mary McLeod Bethune Legacy Preservation Institute, Inc. which was founded by Dr. Evelyn Bethune to ensure the continuation, growth and development of the legacy of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune and her philosophy of encouraging and promoting education in a variety of platforms.

IN THE BEGINNING Like most relatives of famous people, the grandchildren of Dr. Mary
McLeod Bethune are often asked what it is like to be related to someone so well known. Her grandmother was far ahead of her time in her vision, focus, and ability to lead our people. Growing up in her shadow was

My most memorable college moment was graduating from the college started by my grandmother in 1904. I grew up on that campus and have watched it grow to the magnificent place that it is today.
