I make sure that I live in the area/neighborhood where I teach. I want to be a role model who is accessible outside of the school. I feel that a student should be able to see a professional in the neighborhood they live; not just at school. I think that it gives them a physical example of a reality they can attain. I also feel that I am empowered at school because of the relationship created with students and their families when we interact in the neighborhood.
