I chose to attend an HBCU because from first grade to my senior year my parents chose to send me to an all white school due to the education system was better for white children than the black children . We lived in a decent neighborhood in the city. The program that my parents chose for me was called urban suburban program. This program I had to interview for at an early age and I was accepted which entitled me to attend a school in the suburban area of Penfield NY. This program chose five black students to attend the school from the city. It was a wonderful program. The education system was better than the inner city schools. When I entered middle school is the time that I learned that the school treated the black students a little different than the white students. I cried to my parents a lot. They still insisted that I was in a better school system. Now that I am older I do realize that it was a better school system but it lacked teaching me about important black heroes. During my college search I realized that I needed to attend a HBCU. I needed to be with people of my culture. I enjoy being at Johnson C. Smith university. Attending this HBCU i feel that I can progress as a person. My major is criminology my goal is to become a lawyer. This school has this program that can help e purse my goals. I find it refreshing to attend an HBCU. I am from the north and it is totally different. The southern hospitality is wonderful. I learned that attending an HBCU the students stick together and the instructors were tough during my freshman year which I needed. My parents can not afford to send me to Charlotte but God has blessed me so far and I have continued faith and belief that I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.
