Genese A. Lavalais was born in 1981 in Pineville, La. She was raised in Marksville, La. In 1999, she graduated from Marksville High School. After high school she received an athletic scholarship to Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Ar. She graduated from Southern Arkansas University in 2004 where she received her bachelor of arts in applied science with emphasis in Health, Kinesiology, and Recreation. There after, Ms. Lavalais became the assistant basketball coach at her alma mata. She help lead the Lady Tigers to undefeated records in district play, and mutliple trips to state play-offs. Two years after graduating from SAU, she decided to pursue her Masters at Grambling State University in Sport Administration. Ms. Lavalais presented at Louisiana Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (LaHPERD) conference in the fall of 2006. Ms. Lavalais was also nominated to sit on the board of LaHPERD. Ms. Lavalais also presented in Torino, Italy, at the European Association of Sports Management (EASM), on the topic of Self Efficacy in female adolescent.
What makes Ms. Lavalais special is her drive to become a leader in the sports administration field.

Current Whereabouts:

I am currently spending a lot of time trying to get in my field of study.

Life & Professional Aspirations:

My life and professional aspirations are to become an important contributor in the sports administration field. This is a field where African Americans are still not treated fair. I have sent out thousands of resumes, and I still have not been given an interview. I would like to one day help Afican American students, who wish to get in this field, to have an easier time that I am having.
