About   (request update)
Jerissa Lake, a native from the beautiful island of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands located in the Caribbean Sea, came from a family of four. Her parents Jerome and Gwendolyn Lake whom she respects and love very much are the backbone of her foundation. They are both strong people who taught her how to stand up for what she believes in and to be sensitive to the needs of others. They also taught her to be a leader, but follow when needed. She received her Bachelors of Science in Engineering Mathematics from St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh, North Carolina in May 2011. Not only did she represent the class of 2011 at the institution, but also represented as a member of the volleyball and softball team for St. Augustine’s College Lady Falcons and became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.
In her sophomore year Jerissa was awarded Honor Roll and made the Dean’s list both freshman and sophomore year. She was a bridge program tutor in the Mathematics and Natural Science department of St. Augustine’s College where she helped to develop the mathematical minds of other colleagues.
She continued her studies in August, 2011 as she entered into the Computer Science Master’s program at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. Her experiences at both HBCUs are valuable ones. They afforded her the chance to attend important conference hosted by NASA and leadership programs hosted by Intel and permitted her to develop a strong networking background. Another fulfilling experience was the acceptance of her paper “Authentication Vulnerabilities in OpenEMR” by the Association of Computer Information Science and Engineering Departments at Minority Institutions (ADMI). This allowed her the opportunity to present her paper at the 2013 Symposium on Computing at Minority Institutions in Virginia Beach. In May 2013 Jerissa graduated with her Master’s degree in Computer Science. Today she is currently employed at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) as a Scientist at the Washington D.C. Naval Yard.
