Claim To Fame:
Young black men have many obstacles to overcome in order to succeed in the 21st century. There are few role models in urban communities, the “intimidation factor” gives reason for discriminations and education is not acknowledged as the way to new opportunities. I didn’t have a role model to follow for the type of dreams that I have. There are many young black females pursuing careers through education, on the other hand, most young black males don’t have a clue as to how to advance in their respective careers. In addition to the lack of role models leading the way, some young black males are being discriminated against. I believe that young black males intimidate the older corporate American work force. Due to this “intimidation factor” a lot of opportunities are withheld from qualified candidates. Young black males need to acknowledge how education opens new doors. I believe that education not only feeds my hunger for knowledge, it also provides a way to take care of my family. Statistics show that a person with a college degree will earn tens of thousands more than a person without a high school diploma. I pride myself for being a role model to my younger brother and nephews. I am a Certified Phlebotomist with over 10 years of experience and I also have an Associates Degree in Biology. I am attending Norfolk State University seeking to earn a Bachelors Degree with a double major, Biology and Medical Technology.
Most Memorable Moment:
Have not reached it yet, but when i graduate it will be my best college moment.
