About   (request update)
Born in Durham, North Carolina, I attended Chowan Junior College (currently Chowan University); I received an Associate of Science degree in Accounting, in 1982. I attended North Carolina Central University, where I graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Science. Further studies in HIV/AIDS were done at Florida Community College at Jacksonville and the University of Florida where I received my certification in HIV/AIDS counseling and phlebotomy respectively in 1994. In 2004, I became a Georgia Licensed Real Estate Agent. In 2007 I received a Master’s of Science Degree in Conflict Management from Kennesaw State University. I am currently a Doctoral Candidate, in General Counseling Studies at Capella University. I am certified in HIV Counseling & Testing and several Diffusion of Effective Behavioral Interventions; through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

I have worked in the field of HIV/AIDS for over 17 years. I have traveled throughout the United States to conferences and workshops in order to remain knowledgeable of new research and treatments that are available to clients. Serving as a consultant, I have spoken at various national seminars and conferences. As a HIV/AIDS Health Educator, I have developed programs and workshops to empower and encourage those living with HIV/AIDS. I conduct weekly community HIV/AIDS outreach to the African American, Latino Men who have Sex with Men; Transgender and those at the highest risk of contracting the virus. As a result of consistent quality service, I have received numerous awards and citations, been profiled by the media and have achieved respect in the HIV/AIDS community. My goal is to extend my educational outreach beyond the United States and work with organizations utilizing my work, educational skills, and experiences in the HIV/AIDS field to make a change in the lives of others on a global scale.

I have served on Georgia Community Planning Group, Ryan White Planning Council (Fulton and Cobb counties), (Chairperson) Metro-Atlanta HIV/AIDS/STI Community Leadership Coalition, Georgia Medical Monitoring Project Community Advisory Board Member, Bristol Myers-Squibb Community Advisory Board, John Kappers AIDS Community Service 2006 Award Nominee, Cobb County Community Resource Coalition, Black and White Men Together Award 2011, recognized as an Inspiring Person from the National Network of Library Science 2013, and recently awarded a community service award from The Black AIDS Institute.

I had my first experience in HIV/AIDS in Jacksonville Florida where I was an Outreach Worker. In the early 90’s, Jacksonville was ranking third in the top cities with the number of HIV cases reported. As an Outreach Worker I had hands on experience with infected and affected people. There I counseled and tested thousands. I was touched when an 18 year old youth came to me for a test. Not only was he HIV Positive, he had an AIDS diagnosis. His T-cell count was below 200 and he had no knowledge of the disease. It was then when I started “Someone Cares”.

In 1996, the Holy Spirit planted in me Someone Cares (S1C), which is now Someone Cares, Inc. of Atlanta Early Detection Intervention Clinic. Someone Cares was established in Jacksonville, Florida in 1996. Someone Cares was formed to bring about a change in the growing number of HIV/AIDS cases reported in the African American, other men of color Men who have Sex with Men and Transgender communities. In 1998 Someone Cares re-established its headquarters in Marietta, Georgia, renamed Someone Cares, Inc. of Atlanta EDIC, serving the Atlanta Metropolitan area. We are incorporated in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. I reside in Atlanta Georgia with my loving and supportive partner Winston Liburd.
