(interview me)
George Milliken

Location: Winston-Salem, NC United States
Birthday: Apr 18th

About   (request update)
I am the oldest of four as well as a PK. My wife describes me as a disabled veteran mathematician. I joined the Army as a Forward Observer and was honorably discharged due to injuries received in a nearly fatal accident. While recovering from the injuries, I earned a degree in Architectural Drafting and Design.
I am a proud graduate of Kentucky State University, where I co-majored in Pure Mathematics as well as Education and minored in Computer Science and Business. I sang bass in the Gospel and Concert Choirs as well as being the editor of the campus newspaper. I was also the first male cheerleader since the school didn't have a gymnastics team.
I graduated with distinction from Hofstra University in New York with my master's degree in Mathematics Education. I was one of the professionals who developed the standards-based mathematics assessment model for the state of Kentucky and I was 1 of 2 mathematics staff developers for The Kentucky A.V.I.D. Program. I also developed and implemented teaching strategies that helped students improve at all levels, using a cultural connection. I was assigned to teach the students who were having difficulty learning mathematics and was able to help them improve dramatically in a year. I was appointed to the position of chairperson of the mathematics department at ABGS Middle School in Hempstead, NY where I was able to significantly reverse the downward trend of test scores by implementing strategies designed to improve student thinking, reasoning and understanding of mathematical ideas .

I also mentor African-American males interested in the teaching profession.
Life & Professional Aspirations:
