Derrick “DC” Chatman was born and raised in Dublin, Georgia and graduated from Dublin High School in 1982. Derrick Chatman enrolled in Morehouse college and chose Business Administration as his major (1982-1984). Derrick Chatman grew up in a musical and creative arts family environment on Simmons street in Dublin as one of seven sons of Cora Chatman Smith. Derrick Chatman learned a lot about business from his godfather who owned a laundry mat in Savannah, Georgia. !!!!” Derrick Chatman gives thanks to Jesus Christ for all of the many blessings throughout his career and also gives credit to his mentors along the way including his mother, grandmother, Roscoe Brower, Martha Green, and Barnabus “Uncle Bud” Relaford. Derrick Chatman began his radio career at WQZY Y96/Dublin in 1989 where he sold advertising and created the hugely popular, “Derrick Chatman Show-The Soul of the City” which was the only black music on radio during the late 80s to mid-90s. In 1994, Derrick Chatman joined 97.9 WIBB/Macon, GA where he would become the youngest Station/Sales Manager in history of Macon radio…additionally, he would create “DC’s New Artist Profile radio show” in 1995 which would launch the careers of DJ Skillz, Young Dro, Drama, CMD Styles, Sonny Spoon and so many others. Eventually, in 2003, Derrick “DC” Chatman would join The 11th Hour Music Magazine as a bi-weekly columnist and FOX-tv/Macon for several years. In 2005, Derrick Chatman joined Cumulus Broadcasting in Albany, Georgia for several years before accepting a major opportunity with URBan Radio Broadcasting in Starkville, Mississippi in 2007. In 2010, Derrick Chatman returned to Dublin with a goal of being a catalyst for transferring a current signal into a 24 hour black music mix station to reach the needs of the entire African American community which eventually became 107.9 JAMZ! Derrick “DC” Chatman is owner of DC Productions Entertainment, Southern Mecca Records and DC’s New Artist Profile TV and Radio shows. Additionally, Derrick “DC” Chatman is the national host of “Herschel’s Raw Talent” competitions across the country. Today, Derrick Chatman is celebrating 25 years in the Media/Advertising/Broadcasting arena and has been blessed with many great opportunities on stage in concerts as well as interviewing President Jimmy Carter, President Bill Clinton, James Brown, Little Richard, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, L.A. Reid, Young Dro, and so many others. One thing for sure, Derrick Chatman always scream once on-stage anywhere in America and that is……where are all of my people from Dublin, Ga!!!!”
