Thats right Irma, It will be a time to be" Cool".
This is only a beginning ,and others will be looking forward to ignorance. In fact, for the first time in history, the eyes of the world will be on us as a people. How we carry ourselves and how we display our feelings, will be examples, especially to our children, that will be most important.
We should be dignified, use diplomacy and be proud.
And above all, we should show unity.
There's a price tag to victory, it's called" being humble and walking in grace".

This is something I thought I would never see in my life time so forgive me if I want to party. I live in Chicago less than 15 min from the Obama household, I have lived in Chicago all my life. I was at the party when he won for the senate and mad I could not get tickets for the rally in Grant Park, but I will be at one of the many parties going on downtown.

Thank you Irma, sometimes we have to defer and let others speak for you-- thank you for saying what you and I and La Donna know for a sure fact. Don't embarrass Obama, this has been along fight, and do not forget the name David Axelrod and David Plouffe. They are the brains behind the campaign.

Of course we can party in the "privacy of our culture" and particpate in parties that other "cultures' will give, Irma -LaDonna and I are talking about "personal" behavior. As in don't act a fool!

There is a National call: to Prayer, to chant Daimoku, to thank the universe. Our work as a people starts on November 5th. We cannot sit down like we did after the Civil Rights march. Rev.C.T.Vivian has drummed that into my head. He should know he was on MLK's Executive committee and is 85-years-old.

You know, I've read some blogs as to saying that whites are going to look at us to see how we carry ourselves. Honestly, I think that's bullcrap if they do start watching us to see how we carry ourselves, that's just a reason to justify some of 'their' actions. And things may get worse before they get better. I do think that we need to be midful of a lot of hate crimes that are going to come our way. We need to walk in groups, park in the light in garages, and be on out Ps and Qs at ALL TIMES!

There is no doubt that our brother Barack will have enough on his mind in getting this country back on track, don't think he hasn't taken into account the actions of his own people.
We all know how we can act sometimes, we should be the least of his worries.
On top of it all, he's also aware of those that will hate his position,.
However he is the most gifted, superior candidate with the organizational skills and the diplomatic touch to repair our standing among necessary nations.
But what unsettles me a bit as the campaign has unfolded is the sence of fear that grips some of the most ardent Obama supporters.
That is the fear for ourselves, and the approaching fatalism, that President Obama will become the fifth president assasinated in office.
Some supporters fear that he will become a sybolic racial martyr if elected.
I don't share this kind of useless fear, because it subtracts from the trancendent nature of his candidancy.
Besides, our presidents govern both the sane and the insane.
Certain risk come with the job. And OUR job is to be "COOL"!
I don't think Obama fears his own death, so why should we?
Like I have said so many times before, there is nothing to fear but fear itself. Peace, Doc.

And he said, we have nothing ,to fear but fear itself-orginally said by F.D.R. --and of course immediately he was attacked for plagiarism, saying he "stole it from a Philadephia Black official when in fact this quote is taught in grade school. That was the beginning of the assaults on his character..and still he rose. So we have to stand behind him with dignity, honor and strength.

Everyone lets make this election be exciting, but on the contrary, we need to pray for one another and have each others back!

MAY GOD COVER US WITH HIS BLOOD, AND WRAP HIS ARMS AROUND EVERY PERSON, ANS PROTECT US FROM ANY HARM THAT MAY COME OUR WAY.

I am glad to see that what Irma, La Donna and Jen are saying about "how we conduct" ourselves, is finally being understood!! We are all going to celebrate, no one said not to..you started this mess Mozell, (as usual) :-) we said this is the time to show how we can "lead" not just in the White House, but on Wall Street at Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft (which has one black executive a lawyer) in their absolutely fabulous Sunnyvale, California offices, in our local communities, in non-profits..we were talking about that conduct, we were not telling anyone, not to party , or go to parties of which there will be many ALL over America and all over the WORLD!

SO YES ALL EYES WILL BE ON US, It took a while, but "you got it." smiles. Now we have to share this outside of this network, because this information needs to get out.

After a hard fought victory, Mo"? I posted a blog, assuming you live in the state you say you live in,to get involved, to go to the campaign office and volunteer . Did you?
Just exactly what did YOU contribute? hard fought victory? ha!

The regret will forever be remembered. I have pleaded, requested, insinuated asked,cajoled,teased..and where was the response ? How many times did I blog that Obama needed you? what was your response? well, you have this weekend to redeem yourself. Good luck. Those who participated in the 1960's are excused. Thank you Irma.

This I promise all of you that are worried about Obama's safety. I honestly believe that the safest place to be on this planet is being some place near Obama and his family.

I also promise you that it is not just us in the Black community concerned about Obama, every government is depending on this man to help save them. And, by the way did you see how the stock market reacted to Obama's half hour program? The market did not do this after the Feds dropped intrest rate 1 whole % on the day before. WAKE UP this is a powerful man and is going to be a powerful leader.

Racism has even taken a back seat to why Obama will needs to be our next president. It is now all about the economy these last few days.Maybe someone will tell the Republicans especially McCain-Palin that bigotry is not working right now in the U.S.A. so please keep the faith and make Obama proud of us on November 4th(voting) and the 5th.

Brother Mozell, I chant(pray)that when you tell your grandchildren that you have celebrated a great day of advancement of our people in America that you only have good things about what happened to us as we celebrated. This I can not do because I have already been there, done that and it did not have a happy ending especially for our people in the deep south. I doubt if even my home state of North Carolina is yet ready for a Black man in the White house. Do you see why I worry? We should never forget the past as we are doomed to repeat it.No, I am not saying to dwell on the past.

Make the next President and first lady proud of us as we show how proud of Barack and Michelle that we are by our own actions. Obama is always reminding all of us that he needs our help.for me. the future is the big picture. again Marta, thanks for this post it is a much needed discussion for us as a race of people.

Please, please, please my people there will be a lot of angry people out there on November4- 5-6.And, please pay close attention to the lady who gave the false attack of a Black man and supporter of Obama attacking her just got released fromm Jail, as being a mental case!!!!!HUH???? Then remember Paris Hilton getting out of jail after a court order sent her there. Well, this girl with the backward "B" on her face is being called mentally ill.I guess "hate crime is out"? Lets see what the Obama being hung from a tree on that campus is called. Will it be called a another "joke"?

Any thing that our people can be charged with while celebrating on November 5 will not be called:mental or a joke or innocent in any way. This I can promise you all.

Watch each other's backs and take those car keys and stop any talk about unprovoked violence from our side. Trouble has alredy started coming our way...

As, I am 66 years old, I believe that I have a right to just one lecture. I will now shut up.

I read in the paper a few weeks ago(so I forgot what part of Arrica this is)about how younge people there because they can not vote for Obama are raising money to hold a public pray in on November 4 all over Africa.

and, for the Earl Brown out there, this is Black unity which can only come from experience/oppression because of skin color. It is a spiritual thing that can not be taught in books.

No, thank you Marta for this post. We all need to see ourselves as others see us. I to am worried about people will get out of control. We do need to be very careful and remember that "I wish I had not done that", is always too late. That the court judge does not accept emotional excuses only facts about why he will be sending you to prison. So be responsible for loosing your job if not your life on November 5.Be a grown up before you do something that you and your family and friends will suffer for later. Short turn pleasures can lead to long, long term pain.

begin thinking about November 6, 08 as November 6,o9 will come with or with you.

If the public react to t his historic day as they do to show how happy they are after a super bowl win then people be very careful on both November 4 and 5. Some people will be out for destruction and because of this be very, very watchful no matter what. Some people will be out to celebrate and some will be out to stop those who are happy.for example there will be a lot of drunk drivers out there so please keep this in mind.

We have gone from the White mass media telling us who we are and what our values are as a people and back to 'word' of mouth among ourselves. You can not beat that. we are listening to each other by way of those who are older and have lived it to the young in the hopes that they are better for the listening...a people who have used this method for, for ever until we got side tracked.

Let's face it . Why can we Black people not be able to declare our own 'holiday'?Don't forget McCain voted against the King holiday...plus we can indirectly show what an impact that we do have on the economy...I have not heard one word about all of our jobs that went over seas leaving us out of work every day. Or the price of gas that kept us from being able to get to work.

I repeat, any excuse is better than none so just pick one.(smile) Call it Black Pride day or in shock McCain-Palin day, who cares? Then contact your representatives in Washington about making November 5 an offical holiday... say how about this....because after 300 years we need a day off, I think.
