Responsibilities: The Dean’s responsibilities include:

Articulating a clear vision for the College and providing compelling leadership to realize the vision
Providing leadership to assist the College’s units in realizing “integrative learning” opportunities in all degree programs through which students are intentionally encouraged to reflect on the connections between their academic programs and their personal experiences and development
Encouraging creativity, innovation, scholarship, and interaction among faculty
Promoting a climate in which excellence and creativity are fostered among both students and faculty
Managing the quality and future directions of the undergraduate and graduate curricula
Providing skilled administration to facilitate decision making at all levels of the College
Executing responsible budget planning and fiscal management
Forging strong partnerships and collaborative relationships with local and regional off-campus constituencies in both the arts and the humanities
Participating actively in public, private and corporate development activities and extramural fundraising efforts for the College
Promoting a positive work environment for staff, faculty, and students
Fostering diversity among faculty, staff, and students

Qualifications: Qualified applicants must hold a terminal degree appropriate to one of the disciplines in the College with teaching, research/scholarly/creative achievement, and service commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment in one of the academic units within the College and demonstrate:

Significant administrative and budgetary experience in a higher education setting at the level of department chair, director or other senior level administrative position
Proven leadership ability including the ability to deal effectively with a diverse and broad range of constituencies and the skills necessary to lead a dynamic academic college
The ability to foster and promote the programs and activities of the College to on- and off-campus constituencies
Commitment to innovative undergraduate and graduate education
Outstanding oral and written communication skills
Commitment to enhancing diversity and equal opportunity for members of minority groups and women

Starting Date: July 1, 2009

Salary Range: Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

Application Process: Review of completed applications will begin December 1 and continue until campus interviews are scheduled in mid-January 2009. A complete application includes a letter of application specifically addressing the applicant’s strengths relative to the qualifications and responsibilities of the position, a current curriculum vita, and the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses of five professional references. Official transcripts of all college and university coursework will be required of individuals chosen for campus interviews. Instructions for submitting transcripts will be provided to those candidates at that time.

All application credentials, except for official transcripts, must be sent by email as Word or PDF attachments to Dr. Mary Anne Hanner, College of Arts and Humanities Dean Search Committee Chair, cahdean@eiu.edu.
