Being dIsabled in the music business...part 2

A Crazzzy Day
I've been involved with the music business for over 20 years and I've seen a lot of things. I've also met some of the best people in the world who happen to make money, making music. Every once in a while, I'll be doing something and I'll think to myself "oh yeah, that was crazy." I remember the time when I was working on a show with MC Lyte and Audio Two. Both artists were scheduled to perform at an outside concert in the middle of nowhere. I
think it was an open field in New Jersey. Pop Star Sinead O'Connor came along for the ride to hang out with us. It was about fifteen of us, dancers, bodyguards, DJ's, make up artists and managers.
When we arrived, we all jumped out of the limo to head to the stage. It dawned on us, in order to get to the stage, we had to walk thru the crowd.

A crowd that was pretty big. A crowd that was separated by only a few security guards who formed a human chain around us. As we approached the stage, a few other guards tried to clear a path for us. "Keep back." they yelled to the crowd. Imagine, walking thru a crowd, where hundreds of people on both sides are trying to reach out to you. Trying to touch you. Trying to touch your clothes. Trying to grab your hand. It was surreal. Everyone in the group had to huddle together and hold on to each other, as we made our way to the stage.

We had to tuck our jewelry inside our shirts, take off our watches and rings, just in case somebody wanted to snatch it as a souvenir.

The stage seemed miles away. It didn't seem like we were getting any closer. As we were walking. I remember glancing at Sinead's face, her expression was like "what the fu**!!" and that's when the thought hit me "the crowd could rush us at any time, and these security guards wouldn't have a chance. Forget the security guards. We wouldn't have a chance!"

The funny thing is that we made it to the stage and the show went on. But the drama didn't stop. After the show, Lyte wanted to go back to the limo. So along with her bodyguard, we went back and got into the car. We were sitting in the back of the limousine, the three of us just talking. When all of sudden we started to feel a strange motion and realized that the fans were swarming the car. I was facing the back window and Lyte and her bodyguard were facing me. One of the fans got smart and opened the door that the bodyguard was sitting near. He had to hurry up and close it.

Two seconds later, Lyte's door opened up and she was fighting to close it without slamming anyone's hands. She did finally close it and the security guards came over and got rid of the crowd. At first when everything was over, we were sitting there looking at each other, amazed. But soon we busted out and started laughing about it. It was an end to another crazzy day!
