THE BLACK FACELESS DOLL
|
Posted By: Min.Dr.LaDonna Blaylock D.D. on December 04, 2008 Can you imagine what life must have been like for the Black Female slave child to have received a doll, a baby doll without a face ? Was her doll a reflection of herself as it's mother ? These dolls were deliberately given to them during slavery here in America, which had a profound impact behind it's significance. Its target ? The Black Female Slave. Recently, I wrote a blog regarding, "Why Little Black Girls Still Desire White Baby Dolls", and how society down plays the beauty of the Black American Goddess. How at an early age, Black girls are introduced to the world of beauty, not through their eyes, but view it through a world that lowers their self-esteem by telling them that to be beautiful you have to be white. Ninety percent of the women on television today are White, blonde, and blue eyed females displaying beauty,( society's definition of beauty), in every area of femininity. From Victoria Secrets to beauty pageants, true female beauty blackness, is out-numbered twenty to one on all levels imaginable. This has always existed, since the invention of television, this ratio has never been a mystery within the black community. I remember back in the day, seeing a black person on television or on the big screen, was a major event. It made us feel equal, it made us feel good to see ourselves. But what was life like, or must have been like for the little Black slave girl who recieved a doll like this from her "Massa", or someone that didn't have an identity themselves ? While White females flaunted a lucullan lifestyle, what image of self did this "Black Child of the Most High", harbor in her innocent soul ? If I had been there to comfort her, these are the words I would use to convey to her: Shrine Worthy Goddess of Unequaled Coolness, Crown Princess of Stunning, yet Approachable Perfection, High Priestess of Unbearably, Enviable Youthful Gorgeousness ! I love you ! (Goddess,..... I give YOU these words today) ! Let us restore the lost voices of the Enslaved African American Woman through Enlightenment !
