2008 SWAC Football Championship Game Set

2008 SWAC Football Championship Game Set
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on December 08, 2008

The 2008 SWAC Championship Game is set as Jackson State will face Grambling State on Dec. 13 in Birmingham. GSU won its second straight division title Saturday, defeating Southern 29-14 in the 35th Bayou Classic in New Orleans. The win by the Tigers sets up a rematch of the 2007 SWAC Championship Game, won by Jackson State 42-31. The 2008 title game is a matchup of the hottest two teams in the SWAC: Jackson State has won six in a row, while Grambling State has won nine straight games.

The two teams met earlier this year in Grambling, with GSU winning 14-5 on Sept. 20, the first of their nine consecutive wins.

The weekend kicks-off Thursday, December 11 with the annual SWAC Hall of Fame Ceremony at the Sheraton Hotel Downtown, emcee’d by ESPN’s Mike Hill with entertainment by Birmingham’s own Eric Essix.

The event, which is open to the public, highlights and honors individuals who have made a lasting impact on the Southwestern Athletic Conference. A limited number of general public tickets may be purchased for just $50 and can be purchased by calling the SWAC office at (205) 251-7573. Friday night, December 12, ‘SWAC Presents…The Soul Lounge’ beginning at 7 p.m. at the BJCC Arena. Comedian Joe Clair will host the event, which will feature performances by Carl Thomas, Dwele, and Marsha of FLOETRY. Tickets for The Soul Lounge are available through Ticketmaster. Saturday, December 13 is ‘Judgment Day’ as the division winners step on the field to decide whose football team is the best in the 10th Annual SWAC Championship Football Game. Always a highlight to the title game is the entertaining Halftime Battle of the Bands, which will showcase two of the SWAC’s best in high-stepping, breath-taking performances. Tickets are just $20 and can be purchased by calling the SWAC office at (205) 251-7573. Make plans now to be in B-Ham for an exciting weekend you won’t want to miss!!
