A press conference was held for Lincoln University’s 18th President Dr. Carolyn Mahoney in the Scruggs University Center Ballroom. After being introduced by Julius Dix, President of the Lincoln University Board of Curators, Dr. Mahoney said she feels “delighted and humbled that she has been given the opportunity to carry on Lincoln’s great tradition with the students, faculty and staff at Lincoln University.”

Dr. Carolyn Mahoney was named the 18th president of Lincoln University earlier this month after a nearly year-long process that included candidate screenings and interviews by a Lincoln University Presidential Search Advisory Committee. The Lincoln University Presidential Search Advisory Committee consisted of LU alumni, students, stakeholders Missouri Legislators and members of the Mid-Missouri community.

Dr.

Mahoney also will be the first woman to lead the university when she takes over for current LU President, Dr. David B. Henson on February 1. She currently serves as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City North Carolina where she is second-in-command.

As first-in-command at LU, Mahoney’s future plans include focusing on student retention, increasing LU and community relations, and broadening alumni involvement with the campus. Mahoney feels her biggest challenge will be “garnering resources and activities to support University fundraising.”

Prior to her tenure at ECSU, Dr. Mahoney, 57, was one of 12 founding faculty at California State University at San Marcos during 1990s. She joined the ECSU administration in fall 2000 as dean of the School of Mathematics, Science and Technology. She was appointed interim vice chancellor for academic affairs in fall 2002.
