Posted By: Marta Fernandez on December 12, 2008 Obviously with so much frustration going on regarding my limited access to my computer, I took my energies elsewhere. Last Monday I decided to go to the Matinee..(should've gone on Tuesday for the Senior Citizen special hahaha. ) But I definitely wanted my money back! Ok..the movie was grungy. I thought I'd see backdrops like "Idlewild" which Andre 3000 starred in. Or a back drop like "The Debaters" with Denzel, after all this was Chi-town in the late 1940-to early 1950's. NO class. None. Zilch. That's not the way it was in all the readings and movies I have seen on that era. Did I mention that every other single female looked "unattractive" on purpose? When you over-profane and cuss it loses all it's punch. That is what happened. Etta James is a favorite chanteuse. Her signature is " At Last", like other signatures, Shirley Bassey's "Goldfinger" Barbra's Streisand's "People"..if you attempt to sing the song, you had better not mess it up...One hour, 1 hour into the movie the famous pop "Icon" Miss B appears..I could breathe. She did a fairly good imitation, but this is not a Jennifer Hudson moment. The cussing, you mean that the script writers had no valid dialogue??Lots of lame language. Mos Def..who probably is kicking himself for stooping to make this picture..still carried it off with charm as he played Chuck Berry. That Brody dude, who smooched Halle at her Oscar moment is one lame dude. Funny looking, corny, jerk. If Beyonce or "Sasha" whoever she is channeling at the moment.. thinks this is Oscar material, if she gets one then I will get one, and I am not making any movies! (this year). No there is no comparison to "Lady Sings the Blues" with Diana in that incredible scene as a junkie, playing Billie. She manages to lay on the floor looking stupid..and her dialogue is about her black mama a prostitute and her white father. Thanks . As always, it's about her, her, her. My body, my beauty, Oh I am so incredibly beautiful because everyone tells me so!! well we know you worked mighty hard at it chick . I want my money back. Just wanted to add, that my little racist friends at my coffee and roll hangout, the Gary's Confectionary shop" had a little part..the multi-millionaire owner of the buildings on that block comes into the coffee shop at least once a week, a fat short Italian man. His vintage caddy's were used as props. One a black sleek sedan and the other a grayish -soft blue tinged number. Beautiful classic cars. One more reason I went to see the movie. You are very good at what you do and I enjoy everything you have ever written ! We also need to find a spot for you in Obama's cabinet with all your worldly wisdom that you have to offer. You would TRULY be an asset for him and the world alike ! Thanks Beloved, I think I will save my hard earned cash and wait for it to come out on dvd.
