Why Black families earn half what white families do and what we can do about it.

Why Black families earn half what white families do, and what to do about it?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After all these years, and according to October 2008 reports from the Departments of Commerce and Labor Statistics Black families earn half what white families do, are unemployed at twice the rate and for three times as long between jobs. This is no accident and it isn't our fault.

Isn't it time we did something about this? Doesn't your future success depend on a correction of this economic disparity or will it survive another generation of our inaction? The civil rights movement was principally about morality instead of economic issues. Truth: only money matters in this capitalist society. Got some, you have power. Have none, you have no power. Have only half of the next guy, you have only half of his power over the forces that impinge on YOUR life.

The way we are kept virtually powerless to affect those forces is to be kept at an economic level half that of our white counterparts.

Corporations' hiring, promotion and retention policies are at fault. We must target the worst offending corporations and affect their bottom line to correct their errant ways. We spend over $700 billion each year as consumers of the goods and services of these corporations. If we slectively directed our purchases away from these offenders, their policy would change and this disparity would disappear. Join an effort to do so. See New Black Direction - Home and volunteer to help. I would put an emoticon here but they don't have one with an upraised, black fist.

President Obama will cure this country's economic woes. But unless we look out for ourselves, the econonomic disparity between Black and white families will continue for another generation. GET INVOLVED.
