Posted By: MIISRAEL Bride on February 02, 2009 HOMETOWN MEMPHIS: FEBRUARY 02, 2009 FIRES LIGHT UP THE MORNING 02.02.009 Memphis, TN Memphis firefighters were busy early this morning putting out fires. First, a house fire around 1:30 a.m. ignited where an invalid woman lived caught fire leaving her hospitalized in critical condition. A spokesman from the fire department stated that because of the time of morning which is a heavy sleeping time often makes it difficult to wake up. The woman was rescued but because of wheel chair and medical equipment it was a difficult save. She was is recovering but remain in intensive care at this time. Then at 3:00 a.m. and apartment fire sent firemen out again. There were no injuries reported from this fire and everyone got out safely. FIREMEN CALL IN SICK 02.02.2009 ATLANTA, GA Yesterday, February 01, 2009 the Atlanta fire department reported that at least 27 firemen called in sick! However, recently the City of Atllanta has faced budget cuts which has resulted in closing several fire stations. The spokeman from the fire department stated that many of the firemen are just "burned out!' from fatigued of course! and called in sick. Others, thought it may be due to they wanted to stay home and watch the superbowl game, however no real truth of evidence can verify that. Hopefully, they'll show up today ready to serve in their duties! HOUSING BUILDING PERMITS SHOW DECREASE Memphis, TN 02.02.2009 The Memphis Home Building Association reports that Memphis has shown a decrease in building and construction permits. G. Hodgkins, President of the MHBA said that in comparisons to permits in 2005 there were 4,600 permits requested and in the year of 2008 there were only approximately 800. He reports that's serious trouble since that indicates only about 3 jobs to every permit. The house building slumps hurts construction jobs and many builders are lacking in a much need work. Mr. Hodgkins says most is blamed on the economic housing downfall which is nationwide. TOLL BRIDGE IS A VAGUED PAYDAY Memphis, TN 02.02.2009 Tennessee legistration had approved a permit to make the Memphis Bridge a Toll Bridge, however recently looking at budget costs for upkeep of the bridge the toll idea has been placed on hold. Tolls were set in place because of the many Arkansanians who compute back and forth everyday to who work in Memphis. It's no payday for tolls just yet! ICE STORM DAMAGES LEAVE THOUSANDS WITHOUT POWER 02.02..2009 ARKANSAS AND KENTUCKY Last week ice storm has many still without power over 300,000 homes are still without power. In Arkansas approimately 100,00 home are still without power. Memphis Light, Gas and Water crews left last week to go help assist with other power companies in both states to aid in restoring power. In Louisville, Ky 600 shelters have been opened and 91 counties 69 cities are still affected. Both Arkansas and Kentucky were the hardest hit by the ice. Crews are working around the clock to restore electricity and power. However, still many homes may be waiting at least another week before all power is restored to so many areas. SUPER BOWL 43 : PITTSBURG STEELERS WINS RECORD 6! 02.01.2009 Football fans loaded Tampa Bay on Sunday, 02.01.2009 for Superbowl 43 and the Pittsburg Steelers came out the winner! The game score was 27 Steelers to 23 Cardinals. This was Pittsburg 6th win! Fans all over Memphis and everywhere where total elated in joy! That's all for this time...
