Light skin vs. Dark skin

Light skin vs. Dark skin
Posted By: Ashley Davis on July 07, 2005

I am so tired of seeing on the tv and magazines so many light skin people and my dark skin sisters not gettin no love. I'm a light skin girl but in no way do I think I'm better than someone else who is darker complacted. Why can't we all just embrace who we are and love ourselves. All black women are beautiful no matter how light or dark their skin color is. I even read an essay by a women entited "Tar Baby" were she was upset that the media tries to say what is and isn't beautiful. Why can't we accept who we are.

that is a wonderful comment coming from a lighter shade sister...i commend u for that. i agree with u 100%. being a dark skin girl i feel that things are harder for me. harder for me to get noticed by my opposite s*x. i sometimes feel like a last resort when the lighter skin girl had turned them down. from my point of view if ur light skin with long hair, ur the 'it' girl. i'm just blessed that i have high self esteem. i dont hate on the lighter girls i just wish that some of them wouldnt think that they were better than us. but just being black makes me love myself all the more!

Its so weird. And although most females think its just towards us, its not. It's like that with guys too. My boyfriend is darkskinned and truthfully I like darkskinned guys better than lightskinned guys. Most lightskinned guys are too arrogant. And what I've noticed is that I see more darkskinned guys with girlfriends than lightskinned guys. Like Rolanda said, it's an epidemic that will last for eternity

I honestly feel that racisim is more of a problem among blacks than it is between blacks and other races. And until we in the black community can learn to accept one another regardless of our skin tone, then why should we expect other races to accept us...

I love dark and light, i don't see a problem but dark skinned females are the originators and need to be glorified for their african beauty. Its just something about a darkskinned girl that is attractive because they are the "original" black women

OOOO yes gurl im wit you on that...do you kno i talked to this real darkskinned boy for almost a month...i thought this would be good because he made me feel good...i felt like i didnt have to change for him cuz we were in the same perdicament but i was wrong cuz not to long ago he dropped me cuz he said hes not gonna get wit any gurl thats his color or darker cuz his babies gonna be too dark... but I dont understand how a whit gurl who may act hard gets accepted before me (a darkskinned girl)...i wish everyone would just forget about color...at least when it comes to our own race...and ive noticed that the only reason those lightskinned girls want me to think that their better is because they wish they were darker...i realized this because my 3 best friends are all light skinned!

I consider myself to be brown skin (although some might categorize me as "light" skin, but in my opinion I believe that it does not matter what the color of your skin is but the content of your character. I just don't understand why some people believe that being light skin is better anyway!
