Dr. Tamica Jones, Senior Woman Administrator and Compliance Coordinator, has been named interim director of intercollegiate athletics for Clark Atlanta University effective Jan. 28, announced by President Dr. Carlton E. Brown.

“We look forward to continued growth and progress for our athletic program and our student athletes,” Brown said.

Since the departure of Mrs. Brenda Edmonds as athletic director in December 2007, Jones has served as liaison to the office of the President in the management of the Department of Athletics. Since that time, the athletic department has experienced many improvements in day-to-day operations, student welfare, facilities and general ethos.

Jones, a member of various NCAA committees and organizations, was most recently selected to serve on the NCAA Division II Athletic Directors Committee and Postgraduate Scholarship Committee along with her appointment on the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics.

During her tenure as head women’s volleyball coach at Clark Atlanta from 2003-2005, Jones was named the 2004 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Coach of the Year. Her 58 victories in three seasons remains a school record.

She received her B. S. degree in Business Administration from Alabama A&M University in 1997 and her Master’s of Public Administration Degree from Savannah State University in 1999.

Jones earned her Ph.D. in Business Administration from Kennedy-Western University now Warren National University in Cheyenne, WY, in 2005.

No timeline has been established for an athletic director appointment.
