HIGHLIGHTS OF A SOUTHERN AUTHOR We have a guest author in Spotlight! She has a famous history too! Cause she done wrote several books! Her most recent book is about celebrating Kwanzaa! Meet noteworthy Author/Chief Librarian VANDELLA BROWN Vandella presently resides in Springfield, IL. She has always been a person of many achievements. Writing of family values is one of her favorite topics. Her writing career begin in her early years. A graduate of Univeristy of Memphis and also a with a Master of Library and Information Sciene degree from The University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA . She is a very accredited and gifted writer/author and speaker. Vandella has been featured in many newspapers and articles columns containing her writings all around the United States. Her first published book titled "Celebrating the Family" Steps to planning a Family Reunion has sold many copies. Born a native of Mississippi she has accomplished a full life of diversified accomplishments. This here is her new latest book: WHAT IS A ZAWADI TO WE? (A poetic story celebrating Kwanzaa) This is a "Lil excerpt" from her new book": The old griot took a deep breath and said, "Zawadi means gifts of every kind that's why Kwanzaa is more than candlelights or colors, red, green and black" "It's people searching for unity bright, togetherness, purpose, knowledge, and faith divine." Now ya'll done lurned what a Zawadi is ..."you can see that old griot if ya'll want?" "One day, I'm gon have a long talk with that old griot!" This is her making a speech, ...I's got borrow that hat! TO THE 8th ANNUAL RACE TO ERASE RACISM-MEMPHIS, TN 02.28.2009 9.a.m (Corner of Goodlett and Southern Ave.) Registration fee: $15.00 after Feb. 23rd. Run a spell in this annual 5K. This annual event is growing and it's got a big eraser too. The proceeds benefit THE BRIDGES PROJECT which is an organization of high school students. Their mission is: To develop among high school students a group of future leaders who can lay aside individual, social, economic, and cultural differences and work for the benefit of all. You gots to get there by 8:00 to registrar. Ya'll might want to brang yo' E'rasers too! Look who's running ahead....It's Marta! Mi Amiga! Fo' show I'm livin "Mi vida loca!" See she can tell you" Zawaddi" a nin't no Spanish word. But if you like ta lurn to speak a some Spanish....Let's run on over there to the church! SPANISH-ENGLISH BILIGUAL SERVICES Memphis, TN New Life Church 3150 Ridgeway Rd MARCH 1, 2009 Ya'll can come on in...we gets to see and here some 'spanol words. This is a very diverse church and you can hear, meet and fellow ship with the Word being SPOKEN WORD OF SPANISH! Get yo' mouth ready to "roll yo' tongue" in and worship with different cultures. Then ya'll can get that language you's been meaning to lurn... I guess? Stay a while.....then trot on back to pick up yo' chillens at THE CHILDREN'S MUSUEM OF MEMPHIS 2525 Central Ave. Feb. 28, 2009 ART SMART If you got some smart chaps tak'em to the ART SMART presentation. There will be a display of colorful patterns on a giant loom, a color wheel game, and creating computer animations. Get on down there ya'll. Bring some money it anin't free! Watch it! That giant loom is moving like a loop! Lookout Mozell! While you is "just thinking"....look for that scissors man to cut me loose! Umm...I don't know 'bout ya'll but once I'm untied from dis' loop I'm leavin yo' smart chillens at home! HERE YA'LL TIP: Gentlemen is very proper to nodd you head and tip your hat when speaking to or departing fromthe presence a Southern Belle. Ladies should curtzy or tilt forward slightly when a Gentle approaches. I got's to go now..This Little Southern Belle is lookin to find something cooking.....I don got a bit hungree. .... "Hey!
