Do we really have Religious Freedoms in America?
Posted By: Marta Fernandez on March 27, 2009 If Religious Freedom really existed in America.. why are we FORCED to place our left hand on a Bible in Court before tesifying? Why are the words in God we Trust on currency and government buildings? Why are non-Christians forced by the government to supress their beliefs, in a Court of Law or face contempt? Principles, it all comes down to that. I believe every religion at it's base have pretty much the same principles in mind. Evil men distort those principles to sway things in their own favor, while righteous men will share and practice those principles to make it better for others. So, the challenge is to ask yourself when confronted what is the basic principle in place and which side of it am I on!

I think that all depends on how one defines "Freedom". In my observation, there exists a great deal of religious freedom for some, ...too much in fact. There doesn't however appear to be enough Freedom FROM Religion. It appears there are those who have the freedom (or audaciously take the liberty) to blugeon others over the head with their particular "religion", without consideration of the fact or possibility that others may not share their faith, ...or care to hear about it. This is most often accomplished with as much subtlety as "Bulls running through a China Shop".
With Freedom comes Responsibility. People may have the "right" to choose to worship as they please, ...they must however realize, they do NOT have the "right" to impose their beliefs on others, ...or proselytize & harass, til the day is longl If I want to know your religion, I will ask you, and if I want a religious sermon, I will go to church! We, for all intents and purposes are defining freedom according to the laws of this land, we are not going beyond this scope.

Good comments and discussions but crystal if I may ask why do you consider yourself a christain when as you stated," Religion is a way to stabilize a country morally through common beliefs instead many laws." In addition, you stated that ,"
When this nation began to rely heavily on African slaves one way to control them was to strip them of their religious beliefs and introduce them to "their" God. This introduction allowed them to subdue the slaves to mental cohersion. The use of the King James Bible and its references to servitude, humility and turning the other cheek allowed for passive control. As you know right is right and wrong is wrong so "rebellion" and the fight for freedom ensued. Are not you saying that you accept passive control and his God over what was the way of your ancestors? Yes, but my religion which is Islam is always being sterotyped. Between finanatical Muslims and sensationalism from the media it can become very difficult. Any freedoms come with responsibilities. I am Muslim, African American, and ALLAh has afforded me these religious freedoms in America. I am an American and was born one. So I am part of the Constitution of America, its laws and regulations that help establish freedoms of all sorts.

I believe that we do have religious freedoms in america. No one can tell me (for example) how and who to worship. See the difference between me and other people. Is that they dont fully realize what the real force should be on. God is the best knower and it is he that will soon come down from the heavens and take up all his believers up. So, that we don't have to worry about if we have freedom in this America or not.

I believe that we have to be careful that we do not mix spiritual matters with non spiritual maters. American has claimed that, they believe and was established on God, but if you look at America's record and how they treat their people ( black, asian, mexican, etc...) God's character and attributes of love is not found. In that, Freedom that God gives can never be measured nor identified with the freedom that a world like America can give. God's freedom is lived from with in, America's/ world freedom, comes with dictatorship.
