Pack yo’ stuff up real quick, we’s honoring a country of Africa and we can go right here in “A Little Southern News” We’re a little early, so ya’ll gets to come on downtown to Memphis. Thousands of people come from everywhere to this most prodigious factitively festival honoring Africa. It’s April and in Memphis we celebrate every year wit Africa in April. Dis year the festival is 23 years old. I can remember going to the very first one. But don’t yall try to calcualte my age alright? Dance a lil bit… There’s four days waiting… AFRICA IN APRIL! MEMPHIS, TN 23 ANNUAL CELEBRATION HONORING: MAURITANIA APRIL 16-19, 2009 This now is poplar International and National festival is 23 years old. Each year a country of Africa is selected and honored for it’s culture, people, and celebrations. Merchants and people from all over the world come to Memphis, TN to partake in this multi-cultural celebration of a chosen country of Africa. Arts, crafts, food and traditions are the trade makers in one of Memphis most highly participated events. Each year a poster is designed, and collectors run for a chance to collect one. Let’s take a safari of what’s scheduled in this year's events. DAY 1--THUSDIY INTERNATIONAL ENTREPRENEURS DAY 04.16.2009 African International Business and Economic Luncheon Holiday Inn University of Memphis We’s attending a luncheon where business from all over the world will be dining a talking about business. So if ya’ll is a entrepreneur of sorts bring yo’ business stuff and talk about growing it in Africa……I guess? Since The Republic of Mauritania is in Africa, you might learn bout what’s that country’s biggest bisness asset is…. Look at Cassandra and Jen…"They’ is rady- tu- eat and find out bout’ something…..I thank so?" We's looking like professionals ladies and…at dat'' luncheon is lookin real tasty too… I thank I’ll put on my best southern belle’s charm “Charmed I’m shure’” "Blink, Blink" Why looks ya'll, even Cassandra’s attitude is nice taday! Look at her--- she smiles like a real Mauritanian African Belle! Ya’ll ‘ member to talk proper now! Me being a Southern Belle, why I grew up with teachers that taught me good inglish, "So I won’t be screwteniszing myself.” " I wish I could call Old Miss Carr..." Lawdy,…Miss Claudy; she woud be proud of me! "Why show I wood.. BABY!" "Just thanking ‘bout her I stand corrected this veriminute." Ahh..hahhh.. MEMORIES...OH, THE MEMORIES... ALL OKAY!.... Come on ya’ll it’s day two already….This is "A Little Southern News", we anin’t got all day to just to get thru 3 mo’... Do ya’ll hear them drums? DAY 2-FRIDIY CHILDREN AND SENIOR CITIZEN’S DAY 04.17.2009 BEALE STREET AND ROBERT CHURCH PARK INTERNATIONAL DIVERSITY PARADE BEALE STREET 10:30 A.M. Look at ya’ll chaps! They’s dress in Africa dress and attire. Why? I hardly recognize them lil bookers. They’s so cute! And in a parade! Heish Up! (*Heish Up is a old southern slang for be quiet, derived from Hush yo' mouth or stop talking) Heish Up!...Ms. Gussie Maes is leading the parade! Look at that child, looking like she’s from Memphis, Mauritania!… Why, I feel like I'm hur mama! I’m so proud of her. The parade kicks off at 10:30 so come on out and see them thar little colorful chullens marching. Drumline anin’t got nothing on them smart stumpin tots! They’s having a picnic ground setting rite on the Robert Church’s park so brang yo piknic baskets and enjoy a fine day of Africa in April Memphis and Mauritania with ya'll families.! I’m still hearing them drums!…. DAY 3-SATDIY FAMILY WELLNESS DAY! 04.18.2009 BEALE STREET AND ROBERT CHURCH PARK What in the world is Mozell doin! He’s so smart he thought he’d just spend the night in the park since we had to come rat back… so he spent the night in his camping tent. I tell you…"Mozell you can out thank anybody I know….I reckon…He’s a plum genious!" I thanks a lot of him, myself... Mo understands...he's my friend too! Just list'n to that music!.. They’s cranking up the band…..Blues is heard in this Church Park taday….and you can get YO' health check-up while’s you’s listening. They’ll make sho yo heart is beatin like a African drummer’s hand! Sounding good and strong! ….Food and crafts and stuff like that…and Blues Sangers. This agin is “A Little Southern News,” I don’t know who’s be sangin the blues, but ya’ll can do yo own sanging if you wants...I'm sho'. Sound likes them drums is getting louder…to me. DAY 4-SUNDIY INTERNATIONAL AFRICAN MUSIC DAY! 04.19.2009 BEALE STREET & ROBERT CHURCH PARK I sees ya’ll did like Mo and just stayed in yo’ sleeping tents so ya'll already hear. It's International Music day, but... "One day, I’m gone have that long talk wit ya’ll." Anyhow, They’s havin a hur rum beet!! Listening to the African Music sho’ moves yo’ feet. It’s all day long so come on down! Free concerts is always fun! Dis is the most attended event of the four days….Everybody comes on Sundiy….So be prepared to git there early and set yo'self down in a good spot. Dress in yo’ African clothes and thangs….and style around just like you is a real Mauritanian Southern Person. You’ chin will be grinning to yo' ears....and folks have a real lively time. They stay til the sun goes down. Brang some money and buy some of the African jewrly and clothes, arts, crafts, and well thar’s so much stuff!… That Scissors Man is around thar too..cutin up stuff…I wonder if he’s in African attire? If I was ya’ll, I’ll be lookin OUT fo' him …if I was ya‘ll. He’s a strange man. Lookout! Dar' he is coming toward us beatin them drums! Daah!…. Yipes! Let’s run to the other side….I can spot him any..whears .... Ugh!...I’m okay…We’ll hide here behind the side of Robert Church’s Statue til he leaves us I’ve got to go now… A Little Southern News is just what it is….A Little Southern News.. Where is Miss Gussie Maes?… Oh, I forgit she’s over thar dancing… HERE’S YA’LL TIP: When saying hello for the first time, Southern Belle’s Curtsy, and Southern Gents tip their hats and bow. I guess? I’ll be staying a lil bit longer for that African music, but ya’ll can go on ...Dat Scissors man went that way.…..” I anin’t 'dat scared" of that Scissors Man…” I'll jus' put on dis' hear mask....
