When is being prejudice being proud?

Posted By: Rachael Walton on July 13, 2005 I have this friend and she's Jamaican. Everytime we talk, go out or do something she constantly tells me how "In her country" everything is better than here. We went shopping once and I say "Oh thats a nice shirt" she says "No it's not- Oh maybe it's a Jamaican thing!" Huh! Don't get me wrong I love having friends from different countries but it's really hard to tolerate friends like that. But the question is when does pride become prejudice? She's probably homesick. That or she's stuck up. You prob need to sit her down and tell her that it offends you. Better to do that than to snap on her...oh wait...that's an American thing...lol

I agree with Stella-Marie. How bad could it be here if you have chosen to move here? I have the same situation with a Mexican friend of mine. She literally waits until her kids go to school for them to learn English even though she's been here since she was 14. Her husband doesn't allow any English spoken in the house. I just tried to explain that she was causing the children to be behind from the start by not teaching them English. She couldn't see my side of it, but I guess that's her decision. We all love America and apparently so do they or they wouldn't be (like Baby Girl said) in the immigration offices trying to stay here. Be just as proud of yours as they are of theirs.
