SUNO Basketball grabs Delgado Community College star

Posted By: Eddie Francis on April 08, 2009 FEATURED Content NEW ORLEANS, LA – Southern University at New Orleans’ men’s basketball program has received a commitment from former Delgado star Ricardo Porter, Jr. A 6’4” guard, Porter will major in Elementary Education at SUNO upon receiving his degree in General Studies with an emphasis on Education from Delgado. An East St. John High School product, Porter made an impact on the national level. During the 2008-2009 season he was ranked 23rd in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) with a total of 314 points, averaging 20.9 points per game. Porter also grabbed 5.3 rebounds per game. Porter proved to be a key member of the Delgado program, having served as the Dolphins’ co-captain. He is a two-time All-MissLou Conference (NJCAA Region 23) player and a 2009 MissLou All-Tournament selection in addition to being a two-year letterman. Voted the team’s 2009 most valuable player, he had a single-game high of 38 points on the 2008-2009 season.
