A GODDESS PROSPECTIVE : Something We Must Do !!

We are bombarded at every turn with sexually explicit messages, American teenagers need comprehensive sex education. Like they put it..., IT'S TIME TO KEEP IT REAL ! The future of our race depends on what we do NOW about this situation. Forget about the annihilation of any other race, It's ours that is in serious jepardy ! One-fifth of teenagers and a third of young adults in their early 20's admit and told pollsters that they have sent sexually suggestive text messages- called sexting- or posted nude or seminude photos of themselves on the internet. While all along, Black girls ages 14 to 19 : nearly 50 percent of them have an STD at some time. The last eight years, this country has done a disservice to young people by spending $1 billion pushing an abstinence-only message that disregards the importance of other viable methods to prevent pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted deseases. The approach that the Bush administration had and believed in,that was encouraging teens to wait untill marriage to engage in sex, and thought that it would reduce teen preganancy and STD's, hasn't worked. We have the highest rate of teen preganancy in the developed world. Also what's alarming is also that at least one in four teenage girls already have at least one of four commonly sexually transmitted diseases NOW ! One in four ? Yes, you heard me, one in four,right this minute. On top of it all, some don't even know that they have it. It's apparent that they need more information. Lawmakers are supposedly been considering a bill authorizing federal funding for comprehensive sex-education programs. An act under the Responsible Education About Life ( REAL ) Act where youngsters would get age-appropriate sex education. Considering ? While they are considering, don't you think we need to get off our duffs and do something ourselves ? First off, we need to be even more responsible for our own, as parents ! We have got to get back into CONTROL ! Double back home when they think you are gone to work or somewhere else. ( a child left alone will cause you shame one day ) You must train them well and then monitor that training. Also with monitoring and training, Check what they are doing on cell phones and the internet. You can call it... "Because I love you and we have already talked ,but I need to see if were still on the same page method." or, (whatever you want to call it ), and see what the heck they're doing. Naturally, the.. "don't you trust me ?" is going to enter the picture, so you want to be ready for this. You mght want to say something like...." You know I do, but as your parent, You do want me to be there for you if something happens to you don't you ? These are just a couple of suggestions, you're on your own with creativity, but we are going to have to DO SOMETHING ! This is just a start, we've a long way to go ! I agree with you that the Bush Administration approach failed miserably and in my opinion it's due to constant bombardments of s*xually explicit content on the television (especially music videos), movies, magazines, music, internet, video games, and the list goes on and on. Doc it is true that children’s first teachers are their parents, but with all these outside forces constantly maligning parental authority, parents need some help on the battle front while we regroup and re-strategize to save our children. (While I'm on my soap box)...In school teachers are telling our kids...once you get 18 you are considered an adult ( and by the way you can't buy alcohol until you're 21) and your parents can’t order you around. How about this one... ‘it’s my body and I can do what I want with it’ (until you get an STD that keeps you from having children). Have you seen some of this stuff they market as clothes for our girls? They are so revealing that parents are forced to make their own clothing or give in to some of this stuff. Let’s face it…this society isn’t a parent friendly society and no matter how we train our kids, we need to add some prayer to the mix. I keep saying it, “I don’t want to have girls”. I understand Jen ! (had 3 girls, everyone is grown now, I should've had stock in sanitary napkins, Lol ! ) You're right society's not friendly in a lot of areas. This is why we're going to have to take over and do what we have to do. It's all going to have to be re-vamped. If our people plan on being here in another 50 years or more. But it starts at home and it starts with Mama ! How can she teach if she don't know ? There's going to have to be a stategy and plan in place. Everything is way.. out of control. Church helps, but guess what ? Thats not working either, not anymore like it did for us. Faith without works is dead as a doornob, we have to use our God-given talents too in the process. We need another kind of underground railroad, our men need to work with the males and we need to work with the females and their Mamas. What we need is a major reformatory. True ! A man stinkin up the place is one thing ! But a woman ?? Heck naw ??? We'd be surprised at the many young women, women and girls that don't know clean and haven't been trained. We need to re-train a whole couple of generations ! Girl babies potty train easier too than boys ! They naturally have in them a ..." don't want to be nasty or feeling nasty", policy. Lol ! Yes mam ! ...What do you propose we do first... 1. First on the agenda is to get involved in the community say the municipal board or say the housing committee in our neighborhoods. 2. Get involved on the school board in our school districts. 3. Join the PTA at our children's school. 4. Watch television with our children to ascertain what they know about various things being viewed on the t.v. in order to correct erroneous perceptions and thoughts. 5. Censor the kinds of materials our kids view and the music they listen to. (Block off the ear gates and eye gates from corrupting influences). 6. Take our children to religious services. Talk to them about our faith and what good morals are. 7. Teach children about good decision making so that they will be prepared for life. Show them how to weigh the pros and cons or consequences ---with every action there is a consequence be it good or bad. 8. Get to know the local police authority in our neighborhood. Join a neighborhood watch group. 9. Get to know the families and friends of our children. 10. Model good relationships for our kids so that they know what makes for good relationships in order to avoid abusive people. 11. Teach our kids good healthy self esteem. How's this for starters Doc? Thanks Goddess ! You are right on the money with what you have said here. Old school ? This is what we need to get back to. There's a lot of us that are old school and have morales and scrupples to show for it. It takes work in any relationship and we as women need to know that you can't try to be your childs best friend. You already are... the most inportant person in their lives......, their parent. This happens to be more than "Best friend " ! We are the next best thing to God for them. Just like God, we must demand respect and in return respect these "Little People". When any of this changes, even a little bit, makes something different and there will be problems. All of these comments I'm receiving, I will formulate into a manual to be presented in a seminar to educate parents. There is no book with guidlines, each parent is on their own in using good judgement when it comes to child- rearing. ( Spock ? forget that, it wasn't meant for us, we needed a different type, one that reflected us as a people, our circumstances are more complex ) We need to face the reality that the current system and methods that sociey has in place is not, and has not, worked for us as a whole ! A strong mother like yours Irma, is a rarity. How many can control not raising their voices and anger ? There comes a time when we need to accept the fact that something has to be done and use our own good judgements collectively to bring about change . It's not going to correct on it's own. It'll take more than a book, it's going to take a "REVOLUTION" to better our future generations. Who's going to have the honors of kicking this off ? Who else ?....... We Women ! Once this starts to register and formulates, it won't matter if other children are ours or not, it would become duty. Our children are our seeds, and we need to protect, guide, encourage and instill in them values and morales as a whole community should. Our future lie in what we do now. Thanks Jen! This information is most helpful ! Some full-blown women need to enlighten themselves with it ! Lol ! They need to know ! We need to continue to educate ourselves and our children so therefore ,they will know. Alot of them are walking around with various diseases because they did not know what we could've been telling them, if we knew ourselves, and opened up to have these type of discussions. Something I got from my mother was, "She was a teen once" Why do so many of us forget this or any kind of excuse to tell ourselves:Not my child! My Child is not s*xually active We are Christians, Muslims, Jews,rich, educated,ect. therefore we are above this(what ever the social taboo is) so lets get busy now because I was in college before I learned that it is only 72 hours in a month that a female can get pregnant.And by the way this was in my first s*x education class which I was in my late 40s. It was in college(and my children were grown)before I learned that to never punish a child "later' for something they have done, because a small child does not have long term memory...that 'wait till daddy gets home' the child when they act as if they know nothing about it is telling the truth! Oh, and do not punish your child( about age 2-3) for hiting that other child in the head with a heavy object, because it did not hurt him/her they have no way to understand fully what you are yelling about.To a child you are a giant, get down on their level some times to lecture or to just talk. If we know nothing about the child then how can we stop treating them like little adults or an extention of us???Oh, I believe personally by the age of around 9 the child has his/her own identity. The dfference between a 5 year old and a teen is about the difference in a 13 year old and a 20-21 year old.We must never stop learning...and as I said at the beginning my children were grown when I learned all of this in a class about children and their private world of learning how to survive. and socialize. The care taker is the child's first teacher, and the care taker to the child is who loves them and make them secure, fed, etc, This does not take a "male head of the house hold"... The female is best at filling the male and the female role.(smile) Now I will get off the soap box as I tend to do out of love and respect for all of you...Thanks MG and good night. I must confess that eventhough my oldest daughter is in her mid-40s she still knows who is the adult and who is the "CHILD" because I will always be her mother and like my mom I am the dictator if need be and to my childre and now my grand children. I am right even when I am wrong. And, how is this? it is because they know I will never teach or show them disrespect or any thing that they can not trust my never teaching them any thing that will harm them or anyone else unjustly. That is a mouth full ; oh and like my mother my children knew that I would never feed them food to give them energy to attack me or disrespect my house which is their home or anyone else's home!!!I am from the old school where every thing began in the HOME!!!!!!My parents made the laws and they enforced them, and I never forgot it.To this day I do not accept this peer pressure bull s--t!It is my parents that I had to answer to like it or not or HIT THE ROAD JACK IF YOU ARE TOO "BIG" TO FIT IN MY HOUSE!!!!My mother only told you something once. I have never known my mom to raise her voice ever.She is still the smartest and most loving and understanding person I know.

You mentioned Dr. Spock, boy that is truly old school, and I will never forget how his book was the bible of new mothers when my first child was born. I helped raise my half sisters and brothers as an oldess child when Iwould go to visit with my father and his wife in Phila. My child was born in hawaii where my husbnd was stationed in the Marines. At the hospital they gave a class to US new mothers which they gave each of us a Dr. spock's book as he was the rage in the 60s. Any ways the good doctor talked about how the baby needed SUNshine, right? I had my baby out iN the sunshine when a friend and neghibor(who had not children then) came by and asked my what in the hell was I doing? my answer was a quote from Dr. Spock's book. She asked me did i know my baby could be blinded in the sun like that!!!I promptly burned that book and went back to what I knew. My being away from family was no longer an excuse to throw away common sence!!!I guess this is like when the computer goes out (today)some people forget they have a brain to figure things out with also. I will now repeat what I have said before. Please raise your children to never be afraid to tell you any thing or to ask you any questions no matter what it is about. Here is one of the biggest test we will face as parents, talking to our children about s*x.And being open and honest is the hardest.for example, The same people who condemned me for being open and honest with my two girs, are some of the ones who kicked their daughters out when they could no longer hide they were pregnant. Why did they try to put me down as a PERMISSIVE and neglectful mother?!?...I told both of my children if they were to become s*xually active come to me so that I could get them on birth control pills. I do not know if my girls had s*x before marriage on not. I do know that the only times I have known them to be with child was after they had finished college, had great professional jobs and married...this is another thing that was instilled in me...anyone who will lie will kill sometimes to keep that lie covered...do things that you can later respect yourself for doing it LATER...what has been done has been done...
