Look at ya'll ready to go somewheres! Thar's three days of to celebrate culture. Get ready then cause ya'll already getting the blues. We gon socialize with a few Memphians who gon have a tarrific time. And...we got a national celebrity rite at the end of the trip to round off weekend. We's in Memphis so you don't have to pack no big fat bags. If's you from out of town this trip is free fo yo' reading ONLY that is. I thought we'd load on the tour bus to take us.....Load up! WE'S ON THE GETHSEMANE EXPRESS TOURS "You gets to se me express this tour in writing!" I'm driving YA'll...so enjoy yo'selves. THE BLUES CITY CULTURAL CENTER EVENTS Friday-Saturday April 24-26 "It's Friday night...let's get off to the first event...It's at the Lieberry." On the agenda is fun, speaking, and speaking again. (LAST MINUTE NOTICE THIS EVENT WAS CHANGED) BENJAMIN HOOKS LIBERRY 9:30-10:00 IT'S FREE QUIET PLEASE! STATE OF THE ART NATION REGION AND LOCAL LEVEL--SPEAKEASY PART 1 Meet some politican, some personalities in education and the honorees. If you like to take some pictures, brang yo' camera. There will be a few speeches and a lot of hand clapping. You need to be quiet when you's entering cause people may be doing some studying and stuff. Let's sit down and list'n to Dr. Miriam Decosta Willis, and U.S. Representative Steve Cohen then State Representative Reional Tate..just to name a few. This is "A Little Southern News" I won't be naming the whole list of them folks. It's longer than I liked to type out. If you know what I mean.... OK! You can brang yo' chillens' they can do they homework and stuff while you listen to the speeches. This here is Johnny, He can read now! Ya'll member that book that's wrot' 'bout him titled: Why Johnny Can't Read?... Look these teens is doing homework at the Lieberry and smiling 'bout somethin..."I don't know but, they is finding something funny to laugh at?" Shhh! ......Stay quiet,...."It's that scissors man reading one of my books from the lieberry shelf... "IT IS YOU THAT I LOVE!" "Just as long as he left them scissors of his at du'house,..he anin't gone be cutting up them pages." Anyhow, let's leave him alone to dote fo' a while." It's full of 100 Love poems from MIISRAEL. "He'll be spending quite some time in that love book!..."I'm shure....Du...uh!" IT'S 10:00 ....let's go on in to SATURDAY now... APRIL 25 SOUTHWEST TENNESSEE COMMUNITY COLLEGE ARTISTS DO THEIR THING! SPEAKEASY PART 2 8-10 P.M. FEE: $5.00 This is poetry, song, and speaking night. YOu'll be entertained by a radio personality Michael A. Davis of Halleujah FM. See and hear expressions wit everybody speaking and doing their thing! It's poetry month so the poets is in full force! It's time for open mike! Soorry folks, Mozell didn't reserve his space time, so we'll have two settle for "Wilbur B. Hollings" shown hear.. OOOOO! OWWWW! He's really doing his expressing thing! CELEBRATING ARTS AND SERVICE DINNER & SILENT AUCTION HILTON HOTEL Tickets $125.00 each person 7-until it ends... I's got yo' dinner tickets and we gets to go in to that fancy hotel dining room. Look a here...at all this elegance...Earl says he was lookin for a bit of Southern Fried Chicken, but since we is doing a fancy do-dah dinner het gits to use his good "earl-ti-kitt" impression...."Du..uh!! "You're so totally clueless right?" I already know that....I reckon?" We is all dressed up real sharp!..An yo' Southern Belle is always a proper Southern Belle and bride! What ya'll looking like dat at me four? I told ya'll I was a bride! Uhm, uhm, uhm. How soon ya'll forgit about these important thangs! Take ya'll seats and "quit wit them stares!" Like ya'll anin't neber seen a bride befour! The guest celebrity speaker is here. I gots to get an autograph... Clapps ya'll hands for the speaker.. TV personality and famous host... MR. TAVIS SMILEY Tavis will be the speaker of the night at this wonderful beginning to the celebrating of 30 years of this outstanding beneficial cultural organization. Here's some information about the functions and founders of such a highly vivid and helpful union of charity. He'll stop stareing at the bride and he'll speak.... THE BLUES CITY CULTURAL CENTER This center began in 1979 with two great people, Levi and Deborah Frazier who were married in a union about one year after starting this most helpful civic project. Their commitment led not only to a marriage, but a union bonding them together to help aid a community with education, housing and development, social programming and aiding help with homeless mothers. This weekend will mark the celebrating of 30 years of service. The Blues City Cultural Center hasbecome a well renowned organization that continues to up lift the community. The special guest and honorees will be saluted for thier participation in this great celebration. Congratulations from "A Little Southern News!"
