Series: Scenes from My Favorite Movies - "Malcolm X" as played by Denzel.

I love this scene from "Malcolm X" between he and his wife as portrayed so brilliantly by Denzel Washington and Angela Bassett. "Don't you raise your voice in my house!!!" Whoa.

MIISRAEL, nobody will ever be able to embody Malcolm the way Denzel did. He BECAME Malcolm!!! It was uncanny. And this is one of my favorite scenes because like Jen said, this is what a wife is supposed to do. Angela Bassett embodied Betty Shabazz, too. When I saw this, I felt like I had an inside view into the lives of Malcolm and Betty.

The other thing I love about this movie is that it covers his pilgrimage to Mecca, where he discovered that Muslims come in all shades and nationalities. And it covered him bringing that truth back home to America with him, which arguably, cost him his life.

I'm getting all teary eyed now. :-(

Blessings...

In Fiction, Denzel is an award winner ACTOR!---
In the Biographical portrayal of Malcolm Little Denzel is an actor of fiction.

A couple things are true about malcolm, he was a heroin addict and thief from 1941-1946; he was in prision from 1946-1952. In prison he was an avid reader and learns about AlIslaam from Elijah Muhammad. Elijah Muhammad asked him as any other person interested in Elijah Muhammad, since 1930, to read AlQur'an. In AlQur'an he would have read about the directive of POLYGAMY, before gossipy betty.
If he was an avid reader, he would also have read that Muslims conquered Spain, Turkey, parts of France, Austria, Poland, Russia, China, India, Indonesia since 1000 years before and that 1.5 Billion Muslims the world over read the same AlQur'an that he read in prison.
So he should have realized that Muslims were of every country, tribe or clan throughout the world, before his assignment by Elijah Muhammad to make the Hajj. When he was released from prision he eventually lives with Elijah Muhammad and would have seen pictures in Mr. Muhammads home of Mr. Muhammads trips to Mecca and Mr. Muhammads childrens trips to Mecca or Mr. Muhammads childrens study of Quranic Arabic administered and taught by Arabs. He should, if he was observant, realized that Mr. Muhammad had a number of wives and many children by his wives.

So this scene from the movie, is not factual and makes the great AlHajj AbdulMalik AsShabazz look silly as in most movies in FICTION.
Betty did not know Malcolm as well as Elijah Muhammad or as Muhammad Ali or for that matter Bains or the junkie friend of Malcolm.
After this movie I realized how Spike got his big BREAK. He sold fiction for TRUTH.

Love you Clark.
If all of us would analyze the plain truth as well as you we would be the Winners.
Elijah Muhammad joined the Nation of Islam. (DawlatulIslaam-Nation of Islam-in english-1930s negro english---)
He was taught Islaam in 1930 by a Muslim from India---
When a Muslim studies his/her religion, the best language to use is Arabic(the language the definitions come from),
DawlatulIslaam(Nation of Islam-in english-1930s negro english---)
Iqwan Almuslimeen(the brotherhood of believers-the Fruit of Islam) etc.
Malcolm came back from Mecca, not with something any new Muslim already knew(even a junkie), Malcolm came back with PanAfricanism, he met Africans looking to end European Colonialism---African leaders such as Kwame Nkrumah, Jomo Kenyatta; and Patrice Lumumba(malcolm called him-(not elijah) "the greatest man to ever walk the african continent."
Malcolm, Dee, as Muhammad Ali(his own words) said, "signed his own death warrant."
European governments and USA government could not allow a hint of africa/americans together and neocolonized africans didnt like a negro acting like a head of state. Of course, the followers of Rev. MLKing hated Malcolms approach--and Malcolm did antagonize His Leader Elijah Muhammad.
And MOST importantly the only person who knew that Malcolm was antagonizing everyone, putting her and her children in harms way and knew every second of Malcolms time table, and could pass any security check from the brothers-with a gun, was BETTY!
