"NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND" CONTINUES TO KICK BLACK STUDENTS IN THE A**!!!

"NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND" CONTINUES TO KICK BLACK STUDENTS IN THE A**!!!
Posted By: Siebra Muhammad on April 29, 2009

The achievement gap between white and minority students has not narrowed in recent years, despite the focus of the No Child Left Behind law on improving the scores of blacks and Hispanics, according to results of a federal test considered to be the nation’s best measure of long-term trends in math and reading proficiency.

Between 2004 and last year, scores for young minority students increased, but so did those of white students, leaving the achievement gap stubbornly wide, despite President Bush’s frequent assertions that the No Child law was having a dramatic effect.

Although Black and Hispanic elementary, middle and high school students all scored much higher on the federal test than they did three decades ago, most of those gains were not made in recent years, but during the desegregation efforts of the 1970s and 1980s. That was well before the 2001 passage of the No Child law, the official description of which is “An Act to Close the Achievement Gap.”

Those standardized tests in the schools are culturally biased to begin with.

I am an older person and I remember a time when achievement by descendants of americanSlaves did well when we were taught in our own schools and not the ridiculous state schools with no money or love.

I was able to put my children in private schools and 4 have graduated at the top of their classes from prestigious usa universities. In my parental obligations I always keep my children away from the decadent cultures of rap and hip hoping!
I believe that these cultures have more to do with the low achievement of american youth of slaveAmerican descent than bush programs or clinton or obama programs.
These so called culture points give us; "no snitching, you acting white, no pants over the behind wearing, disrespecting women, colors, drug usage, we the victims and all the decadence of a defeated people.
Lets do as Our Leader President Baraka Hussein Obama does and take responsibilty for our lowsy youth and work in our communities to correct this Decadent Culture.

I'm sorry. No Child Left Behind was (is) a joke. Why? Because ALL children, poor white ones included, got left behind. This is one where I don't see race being the issue, but I do see the incompetence of the former POTUS all work her for sure. This PROGRAM was (is) a joke, and it didn't just affect the minority. Not all white people are rich and some them do come from "the wrong side of the tracks". Everybody who needed this program got left behind...swooped!

All I can say on this topic is every man for himself. Unfortunately, I know far too many Blacks who don't give a f*ck about their kids' learning. I also know first hand what impact caring parents have on their offsprings. Besides, the report indicated that test results were up significantly, so why the upheaval? Just b/c White students' scores were high doesn't mean much; only that students overall are doing better.

Craig, you pose an interesting point. If the scores were up and that was the goal, then what you've said is true. What IS the big deal? And I, too, know plenty of black parents who could care less whether or not their children do well in school or even go to school. So it's not all "the man's" fault. My 2 daughters' first line of defense against ignorance, lack of educational goals, lack of life goals period, is ME. I'm teaching them that they definitely want to be somebody. I'm teaching them that education is the key that opens many, many doors. I encourage them to do more in the community and to learn more...more, more, more.

More parents need to step up to become their children's 1st and most fervent advocates.

Siebra, thank you, Love. And Roderick, you've said something here, too. I come from the school of thought that "it takes a village to raise a child" and this has proven true over and over again in my house. My children have me, their dad, my mother, my brothers, teachers, ministers, and other like-minded parents. We all participate in each other's lives. If more of us could go back to the root of our successes as families, we'd all be a lot better off.

Blessings...
