Beware How You Answer; It May Incriminate You!

Beware How You Answer; It May Incriminate You!
Posted By: David Huling, Sr. on May 03, 2009

I know that the majority of us have come across situations where we had to answer questions regarding our professional background.
In life, some of us (including myself) have been subjected to being arrested for
minor offenses such as traffic violations and/or failure to pay parking tickets,
as well as "false arrest/s.
Nevertheless, the fact of the matter is whether we've been arrested or not and whether we were charged or not, create the most significant threat and can be the most harmful thing that can affect one's future.

I'd like to post this question and get anyone and everyone's feedback:
Is there a difference between being arrested and being charged?
On applications different employers asks these questions.
I have been subjected to falsification of information when it came down to FBI/
Fingerprint Check because I answered "NO" to being charged (which I was not, and the record shows that)
Now, if the question had of been, Have you ever been arrested, I would have answered "YES"
So, "Is there a difference between being arrested and being charged?
If they are the same, "Beware of how you answer, it may incriminate you!!!
Thank you in advance.

Apparently the employer does consider an arrest the same as a charge. Taking this question one step further - how does the police report read? Did they say it was a charge. The employer does not interpret the law and does not try to differentiate. The conclusions are probably taken verbatim from the police report.

Nevertheless, I answered the question as to whether I had been charged appropriately. My answer was NO. It did not ask whether I had ever been arrested. Myh answser would be "Yes!"

You know, after having to look up the word "verbatim", I reckon one could "assume" that one thing could mean another yet, as the saying goes,
"Do not assume anything because when you do, you make an ass out of me...
"Thank you for your input Ms. Brown!" It was the most accurate answer that I could have received.
