TASHA SMITH, MISS FRANKIE AND NEFFIE TO SPEAK AT ANTI-DOMESTIC VIOLENCE WOMEN'S CHARITY EVENT

TASHA SMITH, MISS FRANKIE AND NEFFIE TO SPEAK AT ANTI-DOMESTIC VIOLENCE WOMEN
Posted By: Mona Austin on May 27, 2009

Actress Tasha Smith (Why DiD I Get Married?, Daddy's Little Girls) and BET's Miss Frankie and Neffie join in the cause that uplifts working women and brings attention to the growth of domestic violence and women's health issues, while offering career advancement tips and ways to improve lifesyle

(BRISTOW, VA) –The Extreme Makeover for the Woman’s Soul Empowerment Summit and Wellness Retreat (EMFWS) is the ultimate personal growth and development retreat for progressive women. On July 17-18 in Atlanta, GA EMFWS will give working women, female entrepreneurs, women leaders and aspiring professional women the opportunity to network, learn, and heal in a tranquil environment. As women who have beat the odds, "Why Did I Get Married?" star Tasha Smith and singer Keyshia Cole's mother, Ms. Frankie and her sister, Neffie will raise their voices agains domestic violence and share their powerful testimonies of making it against all odds.

Have you noticed that these ever-changing times are creating a female-dependant society? Women are increasingly becoming the sole bread winners in their families due to massive recession lay-offs. Although women are educationally equipped, having earned most (58%) college degrees for over 20 years and are notorious multi-taskers, many have no desire to literally do everything. In reality, it has become more common that she has no other choice. For the first time in America’s history, women may dominate men in the job force (New York Times) causing stress and pressure to juggle even more responsibility. Meanwhile, extra demands are taking a toll on women’s overall well-being.

Now more than ever women need a sense of direction, relaxation and rejuvenation.

The life transforming EMFWS will respond to the clarion call with its unique combination of pampering (i.e., “soul care”) and interactive workshops which provide practical advice in key areas such as finances, success strategies, health and wellness, beauty, leadership, and relationships. The kickoff reception will be followed by an “Evening of Indulgence” and the “Relax: Real Men Just Chill” all male pamper party the night before the summit.

The always transparent Tasha Smith, national spokewoman for the My Black is Beauiful campaign will deliver the keynote address at the banquet titled "The Butterfly Monologue: Beautiful, Vulnerable, Soaring." Smith will share how she left behind street life and drug-use to become a crtically acclaimed actress.

Frankie and Neffie, the real-life mother and daughter team from BET's popular reality series "Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is" will be special guest speakers at the Black Butterfly Banquet the following afternoon. These two women have made it through painful and complicated circumstances right before our eyes. They will speak on the topic, "Overcoming Obstacles, Shattered But Unbroken."

Designed to raise money to help The Center for Black Women’s Wellness and other select organizations that are dedicated to empowering and healing hurting women (in the greater Atlanta area), the EMFWS will feature dynamic speakers, free makeovers (for summit attendees), entertainment a fashion show and exclusive vendors and the Black Butterfly Banquet .
