Do we really send the wrong message?

Do we really send the wrong message?
Posted By: Keith Baldwin on July 20, 2005

I was out the other night chillin wit my boys and its not a surprise if someone stops to speak or whatever but this one girl just gave me the craziest look. She finally came up to me and asked what I was doin. I said I was just chillin , Y?, She said "dont u think it wrong to be runnin the streets foolin with drugs and hustlin and all dat, it's time fo yall to do some with your life. I ALMOST FLIPPED ON DIS BROAD!!!!!!! But I stayed cool. I let her know that I was just spendin time with friends as much as I can because I leave for school Aug. 10 for SSU.

I let her know I wasn't all into the drug game like she thought. I asked her why she thought I was some kinda street hustler. She said because of the way I dress and the car I drive. WELL, I know I like to wear jerseys, baggy jeans, and all that but damn, I can't be fresh or whatever. Then she said my cars. I have a couple of cars. The 87 cutlass aint all that but clean, but the 84 Chevy Monte Carlo is fresh with the new paint and Rally Rims. It's the typical DOPE BOY kind of style. But tell me, are we sending the wrong message because we look a certain way. Are women turn off by "street niggas". Its never been a problem before but what are yall thought.

I think its very ignorant to assume that someone is living a certain lifestyle, based simply on how they dres or what car they drive. Hustlas come in all forms, from business suits, to baggy jeans, and if you're really that good of a hustla, people probably wouldn't be able to tell, 'cause you got ya s*it tightly under wraps. The way a person chooses to dress is their own personal decision. And just because they may "resemble", in some way, a certain "type" of person doesn't mean that its true. Unfortunately society bases EVERYTHING on stereotypes, and ignorance is hardly ever corrected.

wow just because someone has money doesn't mean their a drug dealer, It means they worked hard to get what they got. I think it depends on the women. I mean a girl could want a street dresser but that nessarily doesnt mean that the guy be all in the streets either. It depends on the women's preference i mean some get turned off by the street n*gga and some get turned on by the thought of a street n*gga. To me it kind of goes both ways. I mean I would date a street n*gga if thats my perference at the time and if its not then i wont, it depends on what im liking at that moment. I agree with Janine i mean its like the saying goes Dont judge a book by its cover or assuming makes an A** out of you and me. You never know what their life is about. As for a turn off or a turn on. Every women is different.

Personally i think that was very ignorant on her part and you would not have been wrong if you had tell her something about herself. I do commend yo for the way that you handled the situation. You should have to her to fall back and not mind your business. But better you than me. Just because she see a n*gga wit a little dough and not looking all bummy and dirty she had to assume stuff. Shake them hatas off and let them know youare not press for they attention!!! holla
