SUNO professor holds math and science camp for elementary school students using NSF grant

Posted By: Eddie Francis on July 10, 2009 FEATURED Content A Southern University at New Orleans professor is using funds that he was awarded by the National Science Foundation to hold a math and science summer camp for elementary school students. Dr. Joe Omojola, professor of mathematics and physics, has been holding his Gateway to Excellence in Math and Science (GEMS) camp since the beginning of June. The camp will be ending on July 17th. Omojola was a recipient of the 2006 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring from the National Science Foundation. The award is a $10,000 grant for continuation of recipients’ mentoring work. Omojola received the award from former President George W. Bush at the White House during a ceremony in November of 2007.
