This is taking things way too far and something must be done to stop it.

Tell Texas not to remove Cesar Chavez and Thurgood Marshall from school books.

According to the information provided via the website for the United Farm Workers, here is just a little bit of the information that has sparked this campaign, please click the link to get the entire story, here is a link to the information
http://www.ufwaction.org/campaign

There is an education war going on in Texas that you need to know about and get involved with. The TX State Board of Education is currently preparing to adopt new social studies curriculum standards. These standards have major national implications as Texas is such a major purchaser of textbooks and their state’s required curriculum drives the content of textbooks produced nationwide.

A decision like this has the potential to have far reaching impact on the content provided in the same books our children learn from in the educational system. We can not sit on the side lines and do nothing.

Marquerite, if true then this can be a major blessing.I say this, because so many of our laws and our legal and civil rights are in limbo where they need to be taken back to the Supreme court for better clairfication and to beable to get more bite in the enforcement of those laws. for example,

Brown vs Board of Education was passed, and credit due mainly to Justice Thurgood Marshall in the 50s but was not given a teeth to be enforced until the 60s!!!

please let us all take time to read and study Brown vs. Board of Education and there we will find that this law has already made what these people in TX. are trying to do with this attempt has already been made illegal by our Supreme Court MAY 17, 1954!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(smile)

iF SOME teeth IS PUT BEHIND enforcing this law, that would have never been passed by Justice Marshall, then what both Dr. M. L. King and Cesar Chavez could have never been able to become a reality. And, even more important it will provide a larger form of study of African-American history be taught in America.

As of now the state of Pennsylvinia is the only state where it is manditory that African-America history be taught from the AFRICAN-centered point of view and not the old European-centered point of view that is still being taught to dayin too many schools. This in only one state is required to begin this African-American history in grade school.

This is the only way we will be able to stop this Jim crow style laws from popping up now and then. This is why those nooses hanging from the tree in that high school in Jena,la. could be deemed as a joke or cross buring on our lawns be deemed free speech, but not taken serious enough to have now allowing Jim Crow to strike in this FORM your post is about!!!!

IT IS TOO BAD THAT SO FEW OF US KNOW OUR OWN HISTORY...but, I will just end with this quote...Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it...much love and thank you so much for this post Marquerite as education is how we all win.(smile)

Removing those people will work the same way removing from the American history books any and all truths about our race's and the Native-American true contributions to our country. example,

do you know that Ben Franklin got how he divided the make up for our government...directly from the Native-American, but the fact that the females in the Indian nation has a say in the government...NOW WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT LEAVING THESE PEOPLE OUT?!?

HISTORY IS ALWAYS WRITTEN BY THE CONQUORS...and our White wise men government saw that Indian and African-American history was left out all together...Oh, we get slavery, but the type of slavery is totally missing so we are left to only be finding out about these things...like did you know that many, no countless books, poems speeches and songs, etc, actually WRITTEN by slaves still where they have been all of this time in ,Wasington , D.C.?!?

again I ask now what was thet question about what good...My thanks to this site for some of our actual history to be told until we can win the fight to get it to our children(smile)

Thank you for this post Sistet Marquerite(smile)
