"The Man"
|
Posted By: Richard Johnson on July 28, 2005 I have one question. Who is to blame for one's failure? Is it kismet for blacks to fail, or are we set up by the media? Why is it that when things go bad in our life we tend to blame situations instead of ourselves? Sometimes we can be a crutch to ourselves, and blame it on "The Man." True we do, as a race, have it harder than others, but that is inspiration to motivate and charge us to duties that excel over others. We must compete with others to add value to our race. What are your opinions on our place in society, and who's at fault for our failures? If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |

Richard, that is so true. I get so tired of our people using color as some sort of justification of why success is not evident. I believe the difference between those that are on HBCU connect and those that are not is how well a person takes advantage of opportunity. Success is when opportunity meets preparation. Its disgust me to see every other race excel but my own. In addition to all that I've already said, this mentality of I got mines, you better get yours, is ridiculous. I know that might be a little off the point, but it had to be said. Please, like I always say, my beautiful people, dust the ignorance off your shoulders. Its unnecessary weight.

Almost every other race supports thier own except ours. We as a group of ppl dont do the simple things to exault eo... like giving back to hbcus... little things like that...but saying that society doesnt play apart in that matter is absurd...however with faith and ambition all who believe have the ability to prevail...its ultimately each individuals choice.

If anyone is to blame it's ourselves. True, just like you stated it is harder for our race overall, but it's up to us as individuals to change that mind set we, as African Americans, seem to have. Good post!
