Black Buddhas we should know about....
|
Posted By: Lama Choyin Rangdrol on September 20, 2009 From slavery to present we have been cut off from the legacy of Africans in Asia. Although we do not know our global history the image of black Buddhists is found throughout the Asia world. I hope these images will provide a glimpse into the aftermath of our ancestors’ enslavement that left us not only separated but at odds with images of our own contribution to global culture. Imagine what we must look like to the people of Asia when we, even our president, act as though we have no connection to Buddhists who look like us. We have much to learn about Asia and ourselves. The time has come that is no longer an option; rather it’s a necessity. We cannot avoid knowing the civilization that will challenge our freedom, power, and rights to liberty in the near future.
