Help For Mike Tyson Is Needed!

Posted By: C. Joyce Farrar-Rosemon on October 27, 2009

The interview with Mike Tyson on Oprah brought me to tears. What is happening to the black male? My prayer is that someone close to him has the empathy, insight and guts to do an intervention and get him into therapy. He is extremely depressed and appears suicidal. Someone needs to be the Good Samaritan and help a brother when he is down- that's what friends are for. My prayers goes out to Mike and his family.

After watching the show, it's apparent that Mike is in a state of confusion about himself. His answer to quite of few of Oprah's questions to him about himself was "I don't know". At times he appeared as a mentally challenged individual in how he would giggle at seeing pictures of his kids and certain thoughts which would come to him.

When asked about the death of his daughter, he said (in an indirect way) that he didn't accept what was stated as the cause of her death and that he really didn't want to know the truth of the matter (Oprah was suprised by that) because it would make him resort to doing something really bad.

Mike said that he just wants to focus on his family and live a peaceful life. I got the sense that he (and his lovely wife) is in denial about certain aspects of his life. Speaking of his wife, she said that she had not watched all of the new documentary about Tyson and said that she really didn't care about any of the stuff which occured in Tyson's life because all she is concerned about is how he treats her. To me, that was a poor choice of words on her part. I'm hoping that's all it was and doesn't speak to her being with Mike for selfish reasons. I wish Mike and his family the best and hope he finds the peace and contentment in life he is searching for.

Irma, even if their behavior is self-destructive? I can't smile, my heart is heavy when I see someone who is in pain. We recently lost one famous Mike who was severely depressed to the point that he had to be put to sleep medically. Are we our brothers' keeper, if not, why not?

Does Tyson believe that he needs / wants some out side help for him or his family? And, has he said anything like this to the public at any time?

I asked as related to the question about , "Our males" as some are children and some like Tyson are full grown adults who have the full authority of the legal system to live as they please within the legal system and we should show enough respect for our fellow human being to allow them to live the life they see fit and best for them and theirs.(smile)

Joyce, may I ask how many of Tyson's civil and legal and moral rights would have to be violated to stop him from being free to be the best person he can be?

If he need medical care who is going to pay for it? If he is the bread winner, who is going to provide for his family? If he refuses help do you have the money to take him to court to "protect him from his self"?

You see this is what I call helping the brother not just talking about him in a negative way! I am sure that there are lots of people who wants to help him , but who is actually willing to do so?????

And, while we are at it what do you mean by "self-destructive"?
