Some say being a Virgin is overrated...is it?

Some say being a Virgin is overrated...is it?
Posted By: Candice Johnson on October 31, 2009

It is interesting what people discuss in forums, blogs, or discussion boards on the Internet depending on the topic.

When the topics include sex, there might be comments of pride, praise, disgust, etc. But when it comes to the topic of virginity, there might be

responses of "so what", "get laid","being a virgin is overrated", or "I regret losing it at this age".

Also, when typing the word "Virgin" on Google, it comes up with 161 Million results compared to Drinking (104 Million), Smoking (113 Million),

and Killing with 84.1 Million.

So if this topic is getting more attention than it deserves according to some, then where are the people who want to make this social sensation go away?

This topic will probably go on as long as human beings still exist.

For a young girl growing up in today's society where there are girls who are pregnant in their pre-teens, do you think she might feel pressured to lose her

virginity for the sake of saying she is not one anymore? Or maybe the images from television or magazines might provoke the curiosity to explore sex at a

young age. Just think about the news stories about adolescents "Sexting", texting sexually explicit messages, or sending provocative pictures.

Imagine the repercussions.

If there was a poll study on girls at a junior high and high school in a local town/province, what percentage do you think will be of them who lost their

virginity? Would it be a high percentage, or a low one?

For women who are mothers, aunts, cousins, etc, what can they do to help a young girl understand that "it is a personal choice" when it comes to losing

virginity?

What do you think about this topic?

When a Muslim woman is married, the night of the wedding her Mother in Law takes a new white sheet to the bed of her son and new daughter in law.
The Mother comes to pick up the sheet the following morning---if it is soiled with blood,
she throughs it away and has a 3-5 day party for her sisters, aunts, mother, female cousins and female friends.
If the sheet is not soiled with blood; she takes the sheet to the parents of the bride and asks her son to divorce the woman.
Maryam, the mother of Isa(jesus)---is the example for Virtuous societies.

Clark I totally agree with you, there is nothing wrong with being a virgin, and a lot right with it. I graduated from high school a virgin. I was 19 and engaged when I had my first and ONLY s*xual partner. Unlike most people that age, I was not pressured to "lose it", and me and my fiance used protection every time. Do I have regrets? I say no and yes. No, because at that time it was an action WITH the intentions of marriage. Yes, because afterwards the Brother I was engaged to at the time not only wanted me, he wanted other women AND me and we split up for that reason.

In my opinion people should not judge a person based on whether or not he or she is a virgin. They should be judged by what's in their heart. s*x in any form should be an act that is done out of TRUE LOVE AND RESPONSIBILITY, something involving you and the other person.

I can say more but that's my short take...Peace

My sister, the only way this can work for you is to make sure that black women demand that black men learn to respect black women and their families. Black women will also have to re-learn that do not have babies out of wedlock-it has to be a joint venue with an ideal that you are making sure you and he understand that if we do not do this, we are dooming us. Make sure that the one you choose has character, is from a home where there is a strong black male, is educated, respects you fully and understands that this black male is grounded in what truly is important-education, respect and friendship!!! You will notice I omitted love. That comes with time. You will notice that I place the onus upon the black female because She has to make the choice, She has to agree with the marriage, She must decide what will happen. She has to decide if this is the correct choice, She is the one that has to decide that marriage does not make good unions-good people have to make the union good. The husband and wife have to be VERY close friends as well. THIS HAS ALWAYS WORKED FOR ANY COUPLE THAT HAS THOUGHT ABOUT BEING TOGETHER FOR LIFE!!!

This quote is from the former leader of the NOI, Detroit Red (aka Brother Malcolm)!!!

Thank YOU Sister!!! I was a little hesitant in commenting, but with so many teenage pregnancies and STDs on the rise, it was much needed. Keep up the good work!!!
