Right now I am shocked by Spike Lee, but that is his view point. Tyler Perry has put out some worthwhile movies, and it depends on the mentality of the person to catch the message or not. I mean, I believe the Madea movies, and House of Payne are shows that are different and do provide serious messages and great acting. People need to stop being so damn critical of everything and just enjoy. I agree, if you want something different, make it yourself, and don’t knock someone else’s creativity.

I like to hear about my history like the next person, and learning about our African culture. Nonetheless, I want to laugh sometimes as well, if that’s alright? Does that make me less interested in my blackness because I like to see my people sometimes make jokes, and do stupid stuff? Whites do it all the time, and they dont question their art of comedy and serious drama. We as a people need to chill out seriously.

What needs to be addressed is why are their a majority of white programs on television and not enough of Blacks, Puerto Ricans, and other ethnic groups. That needs to be looked at? Why can’t a black man or woman be the main protagonist in most mainstream movies? Observe and Question that Spike!

Funny he never mentioned this stuff when he had comedy in his movies such as “Do The Right Thing” which celebrated its 20 anniversary recently and even "School Daze"..Very Interesting!

Finally some Truth,
A man dressed as a woman---coonery, Deviance and Decadence.
I do not consider any of tyler perry "culture" of any value to American artistic expression.
thankyou spike---

Tyler Perry is #42 on Forbes Income & where is Spike Lee? Lee isn't on the Forbes list at all.

The three films producer and director Perry released in the past 12 months grossed a combined $130 million worldwide, thanks to a very loyal fan base. Meanwhile, cable network TBS bought his sitcom House of Payne for $200 million.

I believe and will continue to say. If white america and the media in all of its forms did not do such a good job at distorting, stereotyping and mocking the image of us as a people in general . This would not be an issue. I'm tired of some of us thinking that we can't be laughed at or laughed with. Tyler is making his own mark in this world and doing what works for him. Spike has not had a high grossing film in how long? and if Spike is so concerned with the image of folks, then maybe he should do something other than envy another and kick the man's back in.

Opps I stand corrected. Tyler Perry was #42 last year, he's now #30 this year and Spike Lee didn't make the top 100 list for Forbes.

It's too late [at night] to read the entire post and the endless threads, but I'll chime in that I HAVE NEVER WATCHED A FULL LENGTH TP MOVIE NOR STAGE PLAY B/C IT IS TOO STUPID FOR COMPREHENSION!!!

For those who think that just b/c TP makes money on [t]his BS makes him a worthy film producer must be the same folk who rush to pay to watch anything this fool does as long as he dons a wig -- w/out merit.

'Do not equate money with success. There are many successful moneymakers who are miserable failures as human beings. What counts most about success is how a person achieves it.' -- Lloyd Shearer

As long as Spike earns enough to support himself, his family AND make a statement in his community it shouldn't matter if he ranks in Forbes' Top 100. I don't and I'VE made better productions than TP ... and I'M NOT EVEN A F---ING MOVIE PRODUCER!

Oh, and BTW Clark, I didn't watch the clip but can [almost] assure you that there is no jealousy in Spike's comments. Rather an acknowledgment that 15 million fools made one fool uber-rich b/c of his extension of their own coonery and baffoonery.

That's really ingracious (is that a word?) of Spike Lee. Tyler Perry has proved is worth as a successful filmmaker. Spike makes excellent movies and documentaries. The public supported him and while he is the intellectual type, he should not knock Perry's comedies. No one said they were great films, just funny. And the public pays to see them. Tell Spike to get off his butt and come out with another of his top quality films we have gotten used to. I bet Tyler Perry won't knock him if it is a bomb.

If "I" look at Spike Lee's work as it is meant to be...showing our race as a proud people who should not be EXPLOITED because these are movies he would never make, then he has shown respect for Perry's works and their monitary success and onemore step in all black movie cast a house hold world much like Shaft in the movies and Cosbey Show did on TV did.

I remember (way back when)Spike Lee saying how he would make movies that he HAD to do to get money, recognition, power so that the public would come to the movie he WANTED to do...this movie was the life of Malcom X...

Spike Lee would never, ever make the life of Malcom X into a movie comedy.(smile)

Thanks Craig, you have helped me to get up enough nerves to say this... if so many of us can not see the value of a Black person being able to send out a "message" unless it is supported by a gun/drugs or acting like a clown then how can we ever expect the White majority wanting something produced by Spike Lee in their theaters? These people are not in business to loose money or wait for us to get theaters like them...

I am sure that our president would rather be the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES THAN #1 on the Forbes list and beside Forbes is a stable member of the Fox family network and I am sure if he was on it he would be classed as a drug kinpin.(smile)

As long as it took me to have to force my self from the state of not being able to stop laughing at the picture that was in my head, I know it would be a slap stick comedy hit...

It was a picture of someone telling that n*ggar culture joke to my husband in front of his face...LOL
