Lay off the Harry Potter Fans

Posted By: Roy Wood Jr. on August 01, 2005 As I sat in the lobby of a Richmond, VA comedy club the other day I couldn't help but overhear two black women laughing at how ridiculous this Harry Potter Book craze was. This lady said that she wasn't going to get the books for her child even though he WANTED THEM!!!!!! "That's white folk's S*#t she said. Now I'll be the first to admit, I've never read the damn books. Personally, I think Harry Potter is gay. Any kid with magical powers who isn't using them to get women to bow before him is gay much like Superman, and Batman. But that's another story. But The great thing to come out of this Harry Potter drama is that it has rekindled an interest in reading in America's youth. INCLUDING BLACK CHILDREN. Never in my life did my mom take me to a midnight sale at Books-A-Milion so that I could get the newest Curious George or Bearstein Bears book. To be honest, if it weren't for the bookfairs at school then I wouldn't have read half the books I DID read when i was younger. The Harry Potter insanity does borderline on the stupidy that we'd normally expect from Star Wars and Star Trek fans but at least this craze is educational. And how dare a mother deny her son a chance to read books about a little gay white wizard and his little gay white wizard buddies.
