French University in Egypt wins SIFE’s World Cup
The national champion SIFE teams from 40 countries met in Berlin, Germany for SIFE World Cup 2009 in October. Competing teams presented the results of their community outreach projects to business leaders who evaluated the teams based on how much impact they achieved using business concepts to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.

The SIFE World Cup Champion, Egypt - French University in Egypt, First Runner-Up, India - Alpha Arts and Science College, Third Place, Canada - Memorial University of Newfoundland and Fourth Place, Germany - University of Mannheim.

The competition began with each of the universities being divided among eight opening round leagues, with two finalists from each league advancing to one of four semi-final round leagues. The teams from Canada, Egypt, Germany and India won the semi-final rounds and the chance to compete in the prestigious final round and present in front of a distinguished group of international business leaders. The final results:

More than 2,000 university students, academic professionals, business executives and other guests, representing the top leaders of today and tomorrow, were in attendance at the 9th annual SIFE World Cup. The students participated in a culture fair and many other unique activities which provided an opportunity to network, collaborate and learn from one another. The SIFE World Cup is a showcase of the positive difference that SIFE teams are making around the world and the success of this event offers strong support for the organizations vision to be the premier international business and higher education network.

Locally, the SIFE team at Prairie View A&M University is celebrating a successful year and are busily completing its various projects with the hopes of winning at the Dallas Regionals in March 2010 and then on to the National Competition in Minneapolis in May 2010, with the ultimate eye on World Cup 2010 in Los Angeles, California.

The team was named “Organization of the Year” at Prairie View A&M University and also received the Program of Year Award for its “Fashion Week Prairie View.” During the year, the team hosted programs on Financial Literacy: Money Management for Freshmen students, Business Ethics and Intellectual Property and Careers in the Entertainment Business industry, and plans to expand them in 2010. It’s newest program, Fashion Week 2010 Preview, showcased more than 20 student designers and 50 models. The week-long Hip Hop Expo provided opportunities for students interested in entertainment to enhance their craft and learn more about the business of music from the panel of industry executives and artists from Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio. The students were treated with performances from more than 20 local, regional and nationally signed artists, including the popular Party Boyz of Prairie View. The Expo culminated with a Talent Showcase of PVAMU students and the popular Club Pees and Vees.

The events afforded the students the opportunity to enhance their leadership and organizational skills and created exposure and economic opportunities for the designers. Proceeds from both events supported the Campbell’s Soup Canned Hunger Project. Contributions were made to the Meet the Need Project at Mount Corinth Missionary Baptist Church for persons in the community on November 21, just in time for Thanksgiving.

Ridge Fields-Cooper, a junior accounting major from San Antonio is the president of the PVAMU team. View SIFE’s events at www.sife.org.
