Resident Assistants

Resident Assistants

I am a new RA and I'll be goin for my training next week. If you are an RA, can you tell me some of your experiences, and if your not tell me what kind of experience you've had with an RA? Besides having your room paid for, I heard that most of the time you basically do nothing. I would like to know how does being an RA benefit to residential life or if it benefits at all?

Being an RA is like having a job that you are overworked and underpaid!! I was an RA for 2yrs. at Kentucky State and though I had fun with my friends it was hard work. Your "residents" are usually your peers or a little younger. I was an RA for freshman and upperclassman. You would think that because they are older, they behave better, but they are just as bad...sometimes. Just remember you are there to do a job FIRST. Don't try to make friends with your "residents" first, they may take advantage. Set a standard and hold not only them, but yourself to it. You will work hard, but learning to deal with real people and real situation is priceless. I wouldn't have traded my experience for the world and sometimes you have to pick up others slack, but in the end it is all worth it.

Hey sandra my friend wa san RA and she said she hated it. Ahe said she did so much work and she got paid nothinng. She hated so much that she quit after one semester. She said that the folks who worked in the library got paid more and even got to do homework while they worked. She said the only perk was she got a room by herslf, which she hated too. But I'll be praying for you and I'll see you at school on 8/20/05.

PS

I spoke to your uncle the other day, he's recoding our association this year.
PEACE
