Play Your Position
|
Posted By: torin ellis on February 19, 2010 Now that we've made it past the Super Bowl commercials, game, and hype, New Orleans will reign Super Bowl Champion for the year to come. A few months off, and players will soon begin pushing past the pain of practice and preparation by studying game tape, diagrams and drill charts for next season. Familiar routine. Despite such repetitiveness, they MUST first know their role and then learn the roles of others! Whether you view the game on the widely popular HDTV, large screen projector, or portable cell phone, at times the field of play seems chaotic. Rarely that. These professionals know how to play their position. They know because they've said NO to professional distractions since high school. This is where I encourage you to get into position. To be comfortable saying no to professional distractions. Consider asking HR for a copy of your job description. Notice the list of critical requirements within. These items along with recent enhancements are used to measure your performance. Make another list of "stuff you do." See the difference? With unemployment and the fight to maintain employment more challenging now than ever before for a college graduate, this is not the time to be easily swayed. Nor is this the time to think that holding on to unreasonable expectations are a right. Degrees are and never have been a guarantee. You are the guarantee. What you bring to the equation along with the credentials form the guarantee. The strategy is to determine how you better your best and surrender the false focus of being active. The result, you stop playing in the wrong game and begin playing for keeps. --------------------------- article written by Torin Ellis of riptheresume.com If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
