Three Southern University at New Orleans basketball players earn All-GCAC honors

Posted By: Eddie Francis on March 09, 2010 New Orleans, LA – Southern University at New Orleans’ (SUNO) Lionel Green, Jazzlyn Prince and Tyesha Robinson have been honored by the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) for the 2009-2010 basketball season. Green and Prince were selected to their respective All-GCAC teams and Robinson was named the GCAC women’s basketball Freshman of the Year. Green, a senior guard who prepped at George Washington Carver High School, played all 29 games for the Knights. He led SUNO in scoring and ranked 23rd in the NAIA with 538 points during the season. His scoring average of 18.55 points per game put him at 20th in the NAIA. Green also led SUNO and the GCAC in assists with 4.79 per game (totaling 139 during the season). His assist average ranked him 15th and his total assists ranked him 16th in the NAIA. Green was second in rebounds with 187, averaging 6.45; and he was third in steals with 37 over the course of the season, averaging 1.28 per game. A pre-season All-GCAC selection, he had four doubles on the season against Loyola, Tougaloo, Philander Smith and Belhaven. Prince, a senior guard from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is on the all-conference team for the second consecutive year. The graduate of Paul W. Bryant High School also earned pre-season All-GCAC honors. Prince led the GCAC with 3.12 steals per game with a total of 81 during the season. Her 3.12 average ranked her 8th and her total ranked her 14th in the NAIA. Prince led SUNO 96 total assists, averaging 3.69 per game. She also led the team in blocks with 26. The athletic Prince also contributed 274 points, averaging 10.54 per game; 5.58 rebounds per game. She played all 26 games for the Lady Knights Robinson came to SUNO from Washington, D.C. where she played for Luke C. Moore Academy. She led the Lady Knights in scoring with 303 total points to average 12.12 points per game. She also contributed 92 total assists to average 3.92 per game placing her second on the team.
