Posted By: Eddie Francis on March 09, 2010 New Orleans, La. – Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) competed in the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships from March 4th to March 6th in Johnson City, Tennessee on the campus of East Tennessee State University. On Saturday, senior sprinter Adrian Simpson placed 2nd in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.31 seconds. The team finished 27th overall. Hylton Campbell was a semifinalist in the 60 meter dash, and he qualified for the 200 meter dash. Hampered by injuries and inexperience, the University’s heralded 4 x 400 relay team qualified; but did not reach the final heat. Other qualifiers included Mekel Downer in the 200 meter dash and All-American Norbert Miller in the 400 meter dash. Both runners are nursing injuries. The track and field team will begin qualifying for the NAIA outdoor national championships when they compete in the LSU Tiger Relays on March 26th and 27th in Baton Rouge. The 59th Annual Men's and 30th Annual Women's NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships will be held in Marion, Indiana from May 27th to 29th. The SUNO Track & Field team has seven national championships to its credit throughout program history. Currently both the men’s and women’s teams are coached by Yhann Plummer, who was a ten-time All-American as an undergraduate at SUNO. SUNO was the only institution from a four-state area, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and Alabama, at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
